    The Standard was a really decent matchday pint when walking up from town in the 70’s . The
    “concert” room painted in purple emulsion was a tad dingy at 1 o’clock in the afternoon!

    I remember back in the 70s it was run by a Donny Rovers fan. There was a framed letter on the wall thanking him for his application for the job of manager but unfortunately...............

    In terms of real ale pubs in Bradford, then the Corn Dolly is my first choice, although the Exchange is also excellent.

    In terms of real ale / craft beers, then the Record Cafe is my first choice. The rest of North Parade isn't bad either.

    Loved the Dolly, we even caught an early train from Kings X to get to the Dolly by about 12.30 and a taxi to the ground at 14.30 . Pie and Peas or Beef tea cake for lunch sat by the pool table . Happy days.

    Started my drinking in Dec 1973 and I think I have done most of them. I was at college (day release) so it was usually the Lord Clyde or Manville Arms and the Vaults at the Alex

    Sadly my pre match watering hole of 30 years standing has now closed. CAMRA complained after the building was sold, damaged and I understand the interior altered/removed. They should have applied to have it listed as an Asset of Community Value as soon as it closed.......https://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/news/24259020.camra-hits-plan-new-beehive-inn-bradford/

    My only problem with the Exchange is that it is a long distance from any parking. I am certain Ben keeps a truly excellent pint.

    I might have to start a new thread for this! Does anyone remember "Jasons Horror Show" that did the rounds in the early 80s. I remember seeing him at Matelots in Queemsbury and also the Stone Chair and a couple of Bradford pubs. It was so surreal and unPC I'm beginning to wonder if I imagined it :joy:
