Here's a point. If the season is postponed for two weeks (a little birdie told me that is what is gonna happen), then what happens to those players who are out of contract on X date? And loans that are due up? The effectively could leave while the (prolonged) season is still ongoing.

Given the likelihood that the peak of the epidemic will not be for 10-14 weeks, I would be amazed if we see any more fixtures this season! Still the least of our problems for older supporters!

Send the loan players back and get rid of the dross.

Players who are out of contract this season are still, with only a few exceptions, contracted unti 30 June. On the other hand, most loans lapse at the 'end of the season' which for some is a moving feast because of the play-off situation. For what it's worth, the EFL define the season as

"the period of the year commencing on the date of the first League Match and, for each Club, ending immediately after the completion of the Club’s final fixture of the League Competition or, if the Club is participating in the Play-Offs, the final Play-Off match for that Club".

So at the mo, the season isn't over until the last game has been played and therefore those loans remain valid until then!

I’ve just asked that in the thread on the general football forum. April 4th is being said by those making the decisions to be almost impossible so it’s most likely safe to assume there will be no football until May at the earliest. That means you have 9 matches plus potential playoffs to play. The loan contracts plus a couple of the short term loans expire at the end of May and anyone else with a contract that expires at the end of June. As such even without playoffs you will be without 5 players for atleast 1 game and if the suspension goes into June you will barely have a squad. Admittedly neither will anyone else. And even signing a short term deal won’t be something players will be that eager to do as it limits their options due to regulations on player registration especially for clubs where the league they will be in the next season isn’t certain so they can’t judge how likely it is they will be offered longer deals

Nobody told me my dog will get it!! This is bloody serious now.

The PM needs someone like Connolly to hype up the nation.

Well personally I would be surprised if the season is actually finished at all. There is a very small window to get the games done before it impacts next season and I'm not sure with everything coming up that there is much room for impacting upcoming seasons

mid be more suprised if they don’t (that is if season continues to the end) if they change the rules at such a late point I can imagine those missing out in the Championship will sue

If each side has played each other an equal number of times, they'd find it hard to make a case

the rules state that the last promotion place is decided by play off. So if that changes that would be the case they have that the rules have changed during the season

Our season is as good as over anyway. Bit of luck we might never see the likes of Akpan, Devine, Anderson, Guthrie and Henley in a City shirt again. Could lose all the loan players and we’re neither going up or down. And since it works both ways we’d get Vaughan, Hornby and French back.

But there are now exceptional circumstances

I'm sure all clubs would accept finishing the season, with no play-offs, as opposed to no matches at all

The play off finals also involve very large gatherings, which are likely to be the last of the soon to be enforced restrictions to be lifted

think only two options will be discussed. Finish season, abandon season. Anything else leaves them open to court action.

I can't see how any club would even have the callous nerve, never mind the support to sue when all league fixtures were completed

If the choice is complete without the play-offs or abandon totally - I'd be amazed if the majority voted for the latter

And I'd like to be the Chairman explaining why I cost their club, say a £1m in income - simply because I wouldn't yield on the play-offs

P.S. Risdale (and yes, we know his history, but he gets hired by an awful lot of footie clubs) as also just suggested abandoning the play-offs
