It's supposed to be a homage shirt, but someone should have thought of a better shirt to pay homage too! They didn't exactly have a great year in 89/90 either, finishing 19th in the second division and didn't pull up any trees in the cups either, weird one.
Away kit is the same template, but not as shambolic as its White with off white stars. Their 3rd kit looks decent tbf.

This homage shirts, or shirts "with meaning" are hilarious. I read this on the BBC, and was laughing at the marketing bumf being issued by the kit makers. Once again, reminds me of that eight page brand presentation we were issued with months ago.
