Morning all, seeing as there's not much football to talk about, I was wondering if anyone could offer me advice about an old footy programme found by a relative while moving house.
Its from 1911-12 season and its a Park Avenue programme dated 24th feb for the 3rd round cup match with City. Its pages are torn and separated but readable and it welcomes City to Park Avenue as FA Cup holders. I wondered if anyone knew how it could be restored or at least preserved so it doesn't deteriorate further. Any ideas?

I'm sure that someone else will advise on restoring/preserving the programme, but that programme is for an important match in the City of Bradford's sporting history.

The tie was the first major competitive match between Avenue and City and resulted in a 1-0 victory for City. The third round in those days was the equivalent of today's fifth round, and so victory took City through to the quarter finals, where the holders took part in a remarkable tie which went to a 3rd replay, before Barnsley won 3-2 after extra time (following three 0-0 draws).

As an anecdote I remember, many years ago, meeting someone who claimed to have been at that 3rd replay. He swore blind that Barnsley's winner crossed the line after the final whistle. Indeed, the record books show that Barnsley's winner was with the last kick of the match, with the game not being restarted afterwards. Barnsley went on to lift the trophy that season.

Going back to that Avenue v City match, the attendance is recorded as having been 24,833.

Depends how bad it is but a simple measure might be to piece up the pages
and laminate them or similar technique. It sounds like a rare piece of football
    history worth restoring.

City won the game 1-0 crowd of 24,833 and O'Rourke got the goal.Being old
    has it's advantages.....

In all fairness you have a valuable piece of history there and would be worth proffesional restoration could be costly but it has good value I have a collection of several thousand but none as old or as rare as that and have had a few (repaired)
It's always said never try tapeing up any tears as this takes away a big percentage of value
On the net there are plenty of programe restorers who would be able to help
Please post a pic on here would love to see it
    Good Luck !!!!

Saw a quote of £80 for a programme restoration and that was 2009. Think I'll put it back in the plastic sleeve along with my 1966 world cup final programme!

We need to play that 2-3-5 formation! We’ll be FA cup holders again!

I bet Fordy's great granddad said we would have scored more if yon Devine hadn't played at inside left.

    ‘Half backs’

That formation is mental. Stuff of Gary Bowyer’s nightmares.

Goalkeeper Mellors was the last survivor of the cup winning
team and he lived a short distance from me in Garden Lane
    in Heaton.

I wonder if any manager would have the balls to play that formation now. I have been a City fan since 1974 when I met my wife who had followed City since 1967 (her uncle was Maurice Conroy, chief scout at the time).
From 1961 to 1971 I went to the Avenue with my dad, so I remember that formation well, until Sir Alf showed us another way.

As with most things football is a far different animal to what it was when I started watching, it would be interesting to see what a George Best would do in this day and age with the likes of coaching and the modern game, I'm not sure with a guy like Best what any coach could say apart from here's the ball lad do what you want with it.

Yes he did! Family moved to North Yorks in 65 so long before he became notorious.
I remember taking my wife to see where I used to live on Leylands Lane and where
I used to play football and cricket on slalom playing fields.

His house as it turned out was on the RH side of a row of about 8 1930's semi's.
If we had known that's where he lived that's just too close for comfort!

Mellors used to live on the other side of the road a bit further along.
