Bradford City striker Dean Windass has been handed a five-match ban after being found guilty of improper conduct.
The charge follows an incident in the car park at Valley Parade following Bradford's 3-3 draw with Brentford on January 2.

The much-travelled 36-year-old is reported to have verbally abused referee Darren Drysdale in the stadium car park and the veteran hit-man will now miss Bradford's matches against Milton Keynes Dons, Blackpool, Bournemouth, Oldham Athletic and Walsall.

Windass has also been fined £750 and will now be the subject of internal disciplinary procedures at the West Yorkshire outfit.

The ban is sure to have disappointed the striker, who claimed that his remarks to Drysdale were made in a tongue-in-cheek fashion.

"I could not believe it when (Bradford secretary) Jon Pollard told me about the charge of swearing at the referee," Windass told the Yorkshire Post.

"My little boy was in the car with me and I would not do that.

"When he (Drysdale) was walking through the car park after the game, he waved to me as I was driving out.

"So, I wound down my window and said 'Don't give up your day job'. He got all upset."

 

Yet the Oxford fans said he gave us everything, not sure what they were watching.

 

Worst display i've seen this season and that takes some doing. He was just making fouls up at the end. Haven't seen the NKP 'elbow' yet so can't comment on that, tbf he did miss a blatant penalty for them in the first half.

Was he the one in the Tranmere game at VP years ago? The infamous Goodison forearm smash incident. That was the worst refereeing display I have ever seen.

 

I remember the game, not sure who the ref was. Wasn't that the game where Goodison deliberately set about getting himself sent off then we found out some time later he was done for betting on matches?

 

Yes it was. It was Drysdale too.

 

Really, that was an unbelievable display of reffing, stands out most of all time for me, incidents right in front of 4th official and all...90 minutes of complete disregard of the rules or fair play...

 

Oh yes OMFG. Their player was trying to get sent off as he had people betting on it, and yet DD didn't think a forearm smash right in front of the dugouts was worthy of a red that day but an innocuous challenge by NKP was!

 

Oh do come on fellas ........... Prove it or just keep quiet, OK ?

These are serious allegations, and if you can't back them up - Keep schtum !!

Ummm this thread is about Drysdales appalling performance. What you rambling on about?

 

I’ve no idea how he’s still reffing. I don’t think he’s corrupt, he’s just shite. He’s one who thinks we’re all there to see him. Consistently the worst ref we see at this level.

You're making even less sense than normal.

 

I'm not one for conspiracy theories (although I love Dan Brown's books) but I am convinced this ref has a petty grudge against BCFC, and an ego to almost rival you know who. It leads back to the Windass incident, possibly something before that, given that Drysdale was so determined to get Deano banned he apparently lied to the authorities. Ever since then, there has been (to put it politely) controversy every time he has reffed us, and never in our favour.

For balance, I do actually remember Drysdale having a very good game at VP once, so much so I wrote to the FA to give positive feedback!

A bit like Attwell I guess - I remember fans being concerned about him reffing a game at VP once but he actually did well.
