No worries about tomorrow to be honest we will beat them 2-1 Northampton won't settle and our early goal plus one just before half time will seal victory a late consolation for them to appease their fans
Then on to Crewe this is where we will come unstuck a game we are expected to win always spells defeat
over confident and messing about at the back will be our undoing 2-0 to them
Last game home to Orient will be a draw they won't want to lose in front of a good away following (1800) last I heard so will keep us at arm's length without over stretching themselves 0-0
A play off place will depend on other teams results !!!

 

Can see Crewe being a draw, but we might just pinch it.

I can't for the life of me see us beating Northampton or Orient though.

For anyone going down Northampton tomorrow, they've changed the rules for the CineWorld car park, on matchdays you only get 90 minutes now instead of 2 hours

Have said it before this season is a mirror image of 79/80
There or thereabouts all season high expectations etc etc
We only needed a point away at Peterborough for promotion
Big away following party atmosphere you can guess the rest

 

Have to disagree I thought they were excellent full of pace and movement of the ball. We were poor but they made us poor

 

6 of the Northampton team that played at VP are out injured for the season, don’t expect a similar performance with only 5 players the same and for etc.

 

I heard from an ex player he was a really decent bloke. He was just unprofessional because he had played non league all his life.

Late for training often, would wear wrong gear, very unorganised and didnt take things seriously. He didnt have the mindset for the standards the club expected.

 

And 2(probably 3) of our back 4 on that day won’t be starting either.
I know we were poor on that day but they really took advantage and ripped through us again and again.

They are also certainly overcoming their massive injury crisis as well.

Let’s hope it eventually catches up with them tomorrow.

 

I think we will get all 9 points and sit in third on the last day.

The Cobblers have done remarkably well to sustain their push for autos with their lengthy injury list with players playing out of position.

I understand their top scorer Hoskins has been playing wing back recently for example.

 

Northampton will want to go up infront of their own fans, a win tomorrow guarantees them that. But a win is just as important to us, probably more so in the grand scheme of things. A point could actually be pivotal to our play off chances, it would mean its still all in our hands in the final two games. Its all about getting that playoff spot, there is no one to fear in a three game decider.

 

i thought the first 45 against Gillingham was as bad as i've seen us play this season. A lot of dumb football off the back of not being able to change tack to counter a very high press. Noticeable they didn't press us second half. But then Northampton was a very poor performance, defensively we are much stronger now with the addition of the excellent Sam Stubbs.

 

We either roll over tomorrow or go all out and kick ass even if it means picking up yellows .....

 

A loss is a bit of disaster Tone but a draw keeps Mansfield guessing. I think we win against Crewe and Orient so anything tomorrow would guarantee us that spot.

 

You're right, I was never made out to be a football manager, there are so many combinations of what might happen..

 

I actually don't think it is a mirror of 79/80 season.

If my memory serves me, we looked nailed on for promotion that season as we headed towards the end of season.

We have not looked nailed on at any time this season.

In 79/80 we went into that last match sitting in an automatic spot and was ours to throw away, we we did of course.

This season we've not looked like getting into autos really, apart from after the Rochdale game, that lasted 4 days.

If we are to be promoted this season, we will be coming off the rails with a late sprint.

We didn't have the playoffs either in 79/80 to fall back on

 

Might be just me, and not knocking anyone, but I feel I keep reading teams will beat Orient, and they don't lol

Mansfield Town, I think quite a number on here had them winning against Orient, and Orient ended up getting their keeper injured and playing for half an hour with 10 men due to a red card - and STILL won!

Pretty impressive stuff.
