Scott Brown will be well known by Kevin McDonald as former Scotland players.

How do you know that there are no suitable candidates? What because you are going by names or bookies odds?

If no suitable candidates then get one that is currently in a job.

In my mind we have until the middle of November to sort all this out either way. They isn’t a massive rush.

Absolutely bang on the money for me. There is an old saying in engineering , if it ain’t broken don’t fix it, if there is no gaurantee of it working better….leave the thing alone!
As @Tony Wilkinson@Tony Wilkinson and several others have suggested….let the current set up run until Xmas and reevaluate. I keep saying it but those names in the betting loop fill me with dread!
As long as he WANTS to carry on …let him. I don’t buy this nonsense about “ he said he doesn’t want the job” because nowhere has he said such a thing no matter what interpretation they put on his reported or spoken words.

You've been banging the same drum since Hughes left and you are right. If there is an outstanding candidate in employment elsewhere and a realistic chance of poaching him then approach his club.
Of course where I'd disagree with you, The Evidence and others is in suggesting there isn't an outstanding candidate for the job. There is and he'd be ready to start tomorrow.

Having breathed a big sigh of relief when Hughes went I felt able to relax and enjoy the football. Now I'm getting worried again. We're doing so well with McDonald it seems that bringing someone else in risks losing all the momentum and feelgood factor that's been built up in the last couple of weeks. Why risk it? Let him carry on if he's willing to and see where we go. If it all goes wrong or if he's adamant that he doesn't want to continue then pick up the search for a new manager again.

What he has clearly said several times and which you continue to ignore is that he doesn't feel he could continue in the role long term as it is - i.e. as player manager, it's one or the other as far as he is concerned. If that's how he feels, I'd be very reluctant to pressure him into hanging up his boots sooner than he would like as that would end up being a disaster imo. If he is to be considered for the job permanently, it has to be his decision alone that he wants to put himself forward for it. If that isn't the case then we need to leave well alone and respect his decision.

It's the "if he's willing to" part that I think is the problem. He has reiterated 4 or 5 times now on interviews that it's a short term role until he's told someone is coming in. For me, I'd offer him the job now but I just think he wants to play this season more than he wants to manage.... at the minute. The more wins, the more big crowds, the more big chants, he must think it's the better next step?

Also, when he does pack it in (my guess is in the summer), will he get a job offer as good as this to start his career? Highly likely that he wont.

Show me the link , I have repeatedly asked for it. Please don’t post again what someone has “reported”.

Listen very very carefully what he says in interviews. I do. Not one occasion has he said he doesn’t want the job. If you seek it out and confirm what you allude to , I will be more than happy to say I got it wrong.
Go on you tube they are all there.

He might want to continue his playing career for years, but he needs to be honest with himself and ask how long he really has left as a player?

Being brutally honest, I don’t think beyond this season. His legs looked gone at Grimsby and he was late, several times.

we’ve got Gillead and Richie back to their best now, Pattison not far away, and he’s revitalised Osadebe. He might get the odd appearance due to niggles and suspensions but he’s fourth choice at best. That’s just the way it is.

However, in the dug out, he continues to inspire everyone around him and the fans backed the team when we went 1-0 down on Sat. Not seen that for aaaaaages.

Its a big call for the lad I'm sure Ryan has questioned Kevin many times since he took the caretaker job he'd be a fool not to even if it was in jest, yes being selfish IMO if he prefers to continue playing which any one who has played the game at what ever level never wants that day to come.
If he tells Ryan he doesn't want the job to continue his footballing career who's to say the new manager doesn't fancy him at 34, the guy underwent a kidney transplant could that have an effect on his long term health my daughter had the same she looks a picture of health unfortunately she still needs surgery to remove certain glands because of her new kidney, at his age any injury will take longer to mend maybe side lining him for weeks/months we hope none of these scenarios happen if he wants to carry, of course all the may be obstacles put forward are from a selfish Bradford City fan who hopes by Kevin taking the job we may see a little success in the short term ;)

I think he may well have hesitated at the beginning and I don’t have a problem with try and see if it fits. I fully agree that the player/manager role can only be temporary due to the size of the club. However, his next question is does he want the full time managers role or does he want to return to his playing career. His player career is limited which has been stated. Manager role? He is probably still hesitant due to accidentally falling into despite his experience at Fulham. Sometimes you have to grasp opportunities that fall in your lap however he may not be ready in his head. He maybe worried it might all go pear shaped, it could well do but that will probably be the case even if he waited a few years to go into management.

All those years out the game, at his prime ages too. He's had a few false dawns at Dundee United and Exeter, looks like he's finally found some plan that works for him health wise at City and after just 5 league starts he has the opportunity to start the next phase. Hard having all that time out, finally be in a spot to try finish your playing career on a high and now has fallen into what could be the next career path but it would probably mean he has to call it a day earlier than planned.

It's a massive consideration, I would totally understand why he wouldn't want to give up playing after fighting so hard to just get back on the grass.... but by the same means I'd totally understand if he wanted to call it a day when it would be his choice rather than something made for him, and takes on management.

Bowyer got 2 promotions and a manager of the year accolade under his belt. Not done too badly for a “nice guy”.

Has he actually said that he does though Kevin?
Don't think I've heard him say that, only that he is willing to step in until an appointment is made.
He has said that he would like to continue playing (for now) and would sacrifice his own fitness for the benefit of the team and club and get back up to speed later.
    All if's and but's, eh??

He always adds a caveat. At the moment I wish to continue playing is not a denial as some people assume. “My current arrangement is on a temporary basis until it changes” which he has said several times during interviews

Yes as you say always open to interpretation.

Im still waiting for this link to the comment. I WILL carry on playing, I DO NOT want a managers job.

I think he emphasised that at the beginning less so lately. Mac says he speaks to Sparks everyday so the club will be well aware of his position
