It's the unfavoured option at the moment isn't it? Seems to have been coached into kids at an early age that it's better to turn inside, keep possession, be risk averse rather than beat a man and put in a more hopeful cross that may or may not work.

 

I completely agree but on the right I'd prefer a predominantly right footed winger who can occasionally cut in and shoot with his left rather than the other way around.

This is all about getting the best out of Cook so the more crosses, the more successful we'll be I think.

 

I don’t disagree. But whoever comes in will have to work with what we’ve got.
Isn’t Chapman mostly right footed? And Tulloch. Whereas Odour and Wilson are both lefties. So why not just play them on the side that lets them more easily get to the bye line and get crosses in for Cook (or, indeed, Oliver, who scored loads of headed goals in L1 two years ago)?

But what really gets my goat is professional footballers, at any level, who aren’t comfortable controlling, passing, shooting or crossing a ball with both feet. They’re hardly overworked - they have oodles of time to work on improving their weaker foot. I’d have them all practicing those skills with their ‘wrong’ foot and regular training games where they’re not allowed to use their stronger one. It’s like being a professional typist that can only type with two fingers or one hand. It’s inexcusable.

 

According to the Daily Star we are targeting Neil Redfearn and Steve Thompson who are currently in caretaker charge at Oldham. They have done well at Oldham taking them away from the relegation zone with 3 wins and 2 draws in 5 games. Wasn't he Head of Academy at Leeds and was highly rated for developing youngsters.
I wonder if Sparks is considering an U21's or something to bridge the gap from the youth team to first team.
It would be strange though as Sparks has always said it's not an option in League 2.

 

We could do with an under 21 team to further develop academy lads and other youngster Redfearn would be a great coach for that

 

He could be good at that role. Just Sparks has said several times that it's only really viable in the Championship.

 

Several media outlets reporting that we've made an approach for Redfearn and Thompson.

 

The Star certainly is a fantasy.

 

Let's hope they're all just following one inaccurate story.

Steve Thompson is Oldham born and bred so The Latics would seem an obvious club to begin his management career with. If The Latics overlook him and appoint someone from outside (Micky Mellon has been mentioned) then it would be even stranger if Bradford City considered him.
