He also said in recent weeks he had been talking to several clubs.

Would it be the worst idea to bring in an inexperienced candidate until the end of the season? Someone a bit more advanced than a caretaker, but a gamble? Someone with coaching experience, but who hasn't perhaps already had four or five jobs?

I think if I had Ryan's ear, rather than going for one of the 'names' who have had a middling career, I might just start afresh - and since Trueman and McDonald aren't very interesting candidates, it might be worth grabbing a coach from another club and promoting them.
