The Cherry team of 84/5 was the most entertaining team to watch in my lifetime.

I know a few that would vote the Cherry team and if they were better to watch that those in 98/99 they must have been some team!

I did see them play but I'm too young to really remember much.

Yes , i agree , concede 1 score 2 , we knew how to play the game the correct way and god it was exciting.
Mcfarland before him and Terry Dolan also had good teams, that period in the 80's was great to attend matches

Technically they weren't better as they were a league below, but they were entertaining and were never "beaten" I remember three games in particular, Brentford at home when we were 4.1 down and won 5.4, Reading at Home when we lost 5.2 but never gave up the ghost and Wimbledon at home when we won (I think) 5.2 after being 2.0 down.

That said, the 87/88 team was very very similar in attributes and technically I would say the 87/88 team had the edge on the 98/99 team, although some of that was the pure emotion of being back at VP

Bantam Progresivism at it's best. The 1982 team would have walked the title had Sheffield United not been there, only the defeat at home to them stopped us winning the league and with Cooke & McFarland at CB we had a real hard streak. 26 wins, 13 draws and only 7 defeats for a +43 GD averaging as near as dammit 2 points a game. We can only dream of that

87/88 was slightly before my time. I have vague memories, as I was just a nipper. But what a time it was to watch city from 95 to 99. That 98/99 was the best city side and experience I've ever had. A pure joy. We'll never have that again in my lifetime.

Odds check.... Cowley is now fav at 4/5 with Holden at 6/4.

Neither of the 2 are listed for the Bristol Rovers top end, Holden slides down to 6th favourite at 8/1. Neither man short listed for Grimsby or Colchester roles. Cowley is joint fav for Lincoln role at 4/1.

We will. I've been going 50 years and the stars have aligned twice so it can happen again - 81 to 88 (and that included a bankruptcy where we were closer to the brink than either administration) and 95 to 2000. It just takes a man with vision at the top - Heginbotham in the first and BFG if the second.

By the way, in neither period did we have a CEO - just a hands on Chairman who understood football and looked after his own investment rather than paying someone to do it.

Parker said in his match blog on Saturday he didn't think it would be holden. But as you say teasing could be mcdonalds swansong in dugout today.

Think tonight will be more interesting off the field than on it tonight. The commentators may have information or there may be faces in the stand.
I hate this competition it demeans the football league in my opinion and I wouldn’t have been there if I had still been in Bradforc

Something we agree on. It's a pointless competition that exist only for EFL clubs to take the PL bung to play "friendlies" against their 3rd team.

Indeed. Not about the title, ots about who's providing the leadership and vision.

It might happen, but I think the odds are against it now because of the huge disparity in income between clubs in the divisions, especially the championship and league one. Back in 98/99 a decent player in the Championship was getting around £150-200k a year. I know this because I had access to the PFA pension fund working in an insurer. Now a significant number of players in the championship will be paid more than our yearly wage budget.

For us to get into the championship and stay there, someone will need to pump money into the club and use it wisely. Your point about a hands on chairman is also key. Without that desire from the top, we are going nowhere.

When rahic/rupp took over our outgoing owner assured us they can fund us at championship level. Joke that turned out to be couldnt even fund league 2 level.
