Next manager

This posting is a very good assessment of why you should stay with your manager. I remember the “sticky” patch that Parky went through, that too drove me out of VP.

I was just wondering is there any circumstances where you would terminate his contract. As you have explained we have players to come back and these may make a difference but what if they don’t? What if we end up mid table? or horrors of relegation?
The difference between Parky and Hughes is that Parky most certainly didn’t have the budget Hughes has had. We have a large squad but fail to use it. Hughes has also been here 18 months plus had three windows to sort out his squad.

If you get a manager who the fans like and the team makes progress you should hang onto him if you can. At the moment lots of fans are beginning to wonder whether we have the right manager. The next question is do we give up on this season and keep Hughes or do we try and rescue this season by appointing another manager?
Finally I hope I am very wrong and Hughes turns our fortunes round and you can come back to me and say I told you so.

Very good post Jordan, can't disagree with any of it, May I say that some very good post on here from posters who can express in words how I feel about the club/manger and see on the pitch more than I can.

I'm watching for signs that he might be losing the dressing room. The team are obviously struggling with the tactics and players having to play unfamiliar roles. We have seen it at other clubs where the players decide when it's time for the manager to go. It will be interesting at Newport to see how they react and who is the fall guy for the after-match interview.

 

Whilst patience is probably the way to go, all I’ve seen is a squad lacking in confidence at the way they’ve been asked to play. Saying we have injuries to come back would be good ordinarily, but Hughes is still tinkering with the formation and knowing who to play where. There are no signs things are coming together because there’s no pattern to our play, no creativity other than a long punt upfield and hope for the best.

Hughes stays for now but if things do suddenly click, it’ll be more by luck than design in my opinion.

The good old injury excuse. Of the players you mention - Cook, Oduor and Pattison all played in both of our defeats. Smith and McDonald played at Morecambe. Your argument that Hughes needs his better players back to improve performances and results is incredibly flawed when the same players played in our worst results and performances this season. And ironically, without them, we are unbeaten.

And even if all of that wasn't true, our attack has hardly been sparkling at any point in Hughes' tenure has it?

 

So what would you do @bantam2708 , give him longer or show him the door ?.

 

The problem is we don't mix it up. We never seem to get near enough to the opposition box to shoot, or get around the back. So the only forward play we see, (in the main) is the punt from Stubbs or Platt to the wings. Normally into touch.

 

I was thinking the same. One full season in lower league football and made the play-offs. Not sure that counts as a dreadful record, and it is exactly this type of comment that highlights the reactionary nature of football fans in general.

 

Did you agree with Hughes saying there was little point launching it long towards Afoka on Saturday? I thought that was fairly astute, as we've seen managers launch the ball towards players who can't physically compete before, and it makes for atrocious watching.

 

He was right on that front, but why not play two pacey lads up top and play between the lines?

The play was so slow, it was a chore watching us.

 

If Smith week fully fit we might have seen more pace. The game was awful to watch though, no getting away from it.
