So has Wilson, but he's not even on the bench today. I'd have preferred him in the match day squad than Afoka, but I guess Hughes just prefers loan players to the ones he signs on 3 year deals.

Pointon isn’t dropped, he is being brought on gradually. Remember he’s only been given an early full debut because of injuries

Expect to see him come on after 60 or so in all honesty.

 

A big gamble playing Cook from the start. Hughes has always said he takes care with players returning after injury.
Just hope this move doesn't prove foolish.

 

Agree and I've said it before - we can argue about the level of competition in the Welsh league but he scored 7 goals in 19 appearances last season. No one else who is fit, outside of Cook, has that conversion rate.

 

maybe but flogging Cook to death up front alone again, is not the best way to bring him back in to the fold, in my opinion.

 

Maybe he is going on the front foot to start rather than waiting till they score

 

Walker plays with an injury every week. Some seem to play with discomfort others cant

 

Cook potentially a desperate recall or was closer than we’ve been lead to believe?
Either way a welcome return of a focal point up top.

Very surprised cooks back in. Smallwood relegated to bench, I’ve never known a captain for City be so in and out of a team, especially this early in the season. Let Stubbs keep the captaincy I say

 

Hughes went on record stating that Wilson is not match fit and was injured throughout pre season.

 

Strange one again with Wilson, unless injured of course.

I thought he looked quite lively last Saturday, certainly looked much better than Afoka for me

Wasnt it a rib injury? A little bit different to the usual foot/ankle/leg injuries - and if he is past fit to play by the medical then so be it.

 

Maybe just me, but I think Cook thrown back in and Smallwood dropped may have come from a talk with those at the top that we must get a result today? Feels like Hughes has had to go for it today as I think if the fans were not on his back, Cook would make the bench and we play the usual lineup

 

When we have match fit players like Smith and Pointon for his position? That doesnt make sense at all.

 

Even before the rib injury in the Crewe match Cook looked to be struggling with a leg problem.
