I can agree with this, I said to a friend the other week when you have such a free scoring talisman in your squad your number one priority is to build a team around him, the formation should be set up to create chances for him.

 

But here’s where I disagree, because I don’t think he did do what was asked of him. He kept giving the ball away, whether by misplaced passes or being caught in possession trying to do fancy stuff. And it wasn’t just once, it was five or six times in fifteen minutes. Most of the times he touched the ball, he lost it. The fact that we scored again and successfully saw the game out was, to my eyes, in spite of him continually coughing up possession. The point of bringing on a late sub with fresh legs, when ahead, is to help keep the ball and take the pressure off those who’ve been on all game. What Osedebe did was the exact opposite - he put pressure back on our defence and midfield by frequently giving the ball away.

 

That's the point though Jon, we really don't.

We're miles away from a series of 1 0 wins like Gillingham have achieved.

Just saying, "yeah but it's only 1 goal" isn't quite enough when in games you're having your first shot on target in the 90th minute.

 

Walkers’ turn to come out with the inane, meaningless pre match stuff that every player who’s picked to be put in front of the cameras around the country comes out with.
Keeps some fans happy I suppose.
These pre match interviews don’t mean much though do they?
A player could come out and say they’ve been eating cream cakes all week.
Some fans will still lap it up.

Good win and fair dos to Hughes. Now we need to build on it. Suddenly we start in a positive mindset. Long may that continue. The key for me was the absence of Smallwood. McDonald was excellent.

 

Let’s hope Smallwood starts on the bench more often. It’s a breath of fresh air having players passing the ball forward to create goals!

 

Was watching with the Newport commentators saying how good we look. Especially Cook bossing their CB. They were suprised we’re not up there. Let’s hope this is a turning point.

 

Im more inclined to believe the derision he received after the Grimsby and Harrogate games were more instrumental in his decision to actually attack teams using width, as opposed to scrolling down Bantans talk.

 

If we could have picked a game for today this was probably it away from home against a side that averaged nearly 2 goals conceded per game and left a lot of space on a big pitch for the counter attack giving players like Tulloch space to run. Much tougher to play like that in home games against the likes of Harrogate which was our biggest issue last season. Great to have Cook back but got to be careful not to make the mistakes we did under Adams and play him for 90 minutes every game until he eventually breaks down.

 

I think that the opinion of the fans is communicated by various means, including this forum. There was widespread criticism of the back 5/3 and it's magically disappeared. What that says about the management is up to individuals to decide but we played in a way many people have asked for for weeks today and look what happened. True, we had Cook back and the opposition were poor, but nevertheless it seems to have taken a long time for changes to be made which were obvious to many supporters.

 

Good win and performance. This needs to be the benchmark now, with no return to the tepid shite we've seen so far this season.
