will be a godsend , hopefully the start of something because currently the area round there is FUBAR

I took the kids to the Alhambra the other week, and the area is a total disgrace to many folk who travel to Bradford to see a show

The Alhambra is still amazing , but beggars and tramps outside along with closed shops , pubs and eateries is sad

I said to the wife , I could not name one restaurant with in walking distance of the Alhambra worth going to ... or even not worth going to

    There all shut

Well this new venue should be a catalyst for change in the area and hopefully make a start in getting the city back to what it was when we were growing up

Bradford in the 60s was also great, the Odeon/Gaumont had all the big stars of the day Beatles, Stones, Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, Helen Shapiro, Ike & Tina Turner to name but a few.
The Little Fat Black Pussycat nightclub who had live bands back in the day claims that the Beatles did an hour after they had made an apperance at the cellar bar, The Pretty Things, Long John Baldry, Zoot Money, Georgie Fame, Alan Price. Pauline Matthews (Kiki Dee) was a regular attender, and reported that Jimi Hendrix did gig there after appearing at the Cow & Calf Ilkley.

Why are they attaching a church to it though?

Im sorry but music venues and churches just do not mix. How long before someone comes out drunk etc and pees or is sick outside the church, the church raises a complaint and then the venue is met with restrictions ands caveats. A nonsense idea

I think the Church is nothing to do with the Odeon. It just happens to be in the West End area, probably because the rents will be cheap as it is dead

Having just seen what Halifax have put on at the Piece Hall the last couple of days, its imperative that the Odeon does indeed get finished as Bradford centre has nothing else to attract people bar the badly neglected media museum. Halifax and its town centre economy will benefit to the tune of thousands of pounds of invested in the local economy with the music festival that they currently have on. Its attracted people from all over the place, even a few from abroad. The venue is ideal for this sort of thing and they should be applauded for setting the event up. And to think Bradford Council wanted to pull the Odeon down...
