Maybe i just didn't see the potential in this crop of players Lee.....like i said its just my opinion just like i think we were lucky in a lot of games.

I think Grayson doesn't see it either

Wasn't EXACTLY the same said of Parky after he left Charlton and went into exile before joining us ? That worked out ok didn't it. The similarities between the two are startling. Both had immediate success as a manager, both got clubs promoted for fun on, both play relatively unattractive but effective football, both are "real football managers" rather than coaches, both fell into bad periods, both had time out of the game, both bring their backroom staff with them wherever they go.

If we keep Grayson and play slightly dull but winning football he'll turn this juggernaut round in the same way Parky did.

Surely the possibility of that has got to be better than the risks involved in starting all over again this summer and taking time to bed a management team in, especially another inexperienced one, who have the same long term chance of success.

Preston had been in League One five years when Grayson took them up and when he joined in Feb 2013 they were on the verge of being relegated to L2. In his first full season they lost in the play off final and went up the year after. Huddersfield had been out of the second tier for 12 years when he took them up. If he replicates that, it doesn't matter if he plays a style of football we don't like does it ?

I wasn't a great fan of the type of football which Parky instilled into his teams and his tactics were questionable at times. But I'd be the first to admit that he was an incredibly effective manager and that as a result he brought success to our club both on and off the pitch. His brand of football was as dull as dishwasher at times but he brought continued progressive progress to our club. Without him, I doubt very much that we'd be in Div 1. He was very different to McCall who helped to assemble a squad of players at the start of this season who imo just weren't good enough to get the club out of Div 1. It's fair to say that we spent a lot of time this season in play-off contention and yet that was despite our performances. I still struggle to think of many more than 3 or 4 games when we were demonstrably better than the opposition. And I can think of more than that where luck played a more important part in the result than did our own performance. It was sheer unadulterated luck which gave us an undeserved place in the play offs and unfortunately that helped to mask the underlying weakness of the squad. We're finishing around mid table as I expected at the start of the season.

Grayson is more in the Parky mould. He hasn't been able to turn the current squad of cows ears into a silk purse and that's because they're just not good enough. If he's still here come summer, I hope he's given the time and resources to build his own squad and to play his own brand of effective football in his own way. The football may not be the type we'd all prefer but just like under Parky, I expect it to be a more effective form and deliver the success we all want.

The rot has stopped, 1 defeat in 6, as opposed to 9 in 10, shows that. Of course we'd like it to be better

I don't think any manager can be guaranteed to turn a club around in a few weeks or if they don't then they are justified for criticism. Given the strength of last seasons Man City squad they should have been at least pushing Chelsea, instead they were flirting until around now with not qualifying for the Champions League - i.e. it takes time to get the best out of any squad no matter who that manager

I do find this impatience amusing, it's not as though we haven't gone through this before - both Jewell and PP were arguably terrible in their first 'part seasons'

Quite rightly the footie we're playing is getting some stick - but that doesn't mean that this is what the future would hold

I'd totaly agree with all that....i don't think i walked away from VP this season saying "were were really good today" although i did think we were a little unlucky to loose a couple.

The clear out will speak volumes me thinks

This thread begs a question ......... Why was the 'Who do you want as Manager ?' thread created ??

All in all, we want to Win regularly and get promotion ............. Agreed ??
OK - so the football may be shit, more often than not ........... Anyone seen Man Utd play recently ? Jeeze, I've almost fallen asleep, sometimes. And yet Man Utd are set to finish as runners up in the PL !!
City are Lge 1.... Do some actually think WIGAN have played like Brazil all season ? - what are some expecting, ffs ?

I believe it was Mr Grayson who kept telling us how lucky we were to have a Championship manager managing a league one team, so I would have thought it wasn't unreasonable to assume he would turn our poor form around quicker than a rookie.
With regards next season if he stays we have been told what to expect with regards "his style of play" and after witnessing it so far I dont think they are a long way off the mark.

It's a bit churlish to imply he was bragging about his record. We'd soon have had something to say, if he'd rocked up and said we were crap, with no chance of the play-offs

The reality is that no matter what they say, which as I imply is always PR guff anyway, it takes any manager time. PP wasn't a rookie as well - we were told by numerous posters that we were going to be relegated at the end of the following season, six years ago

This 'style of play' thing is another that seems to be gathering it's own head of steam. I've talked to Preston fans, who were fine with it and sorry he went (and it certainly seemed impressive three seasons ago, when I watched them). Couldn't we at least wait to see (if he stays) what the footie is like when he's got a pre-season under his belt and has got some players he's happy with - before we decide his "style of play"? - which by the way is never that pretty to get out of L1 unless you've got a £10K+ wage budget

Again and based on the Jewel and PP experiences, I'm not going to let a weary end to one season let me assume that this is the template for the next

Still don't see what relevance it has to the realities of taking over a team which clearly has some weak characters, something which even I admit was unaccpetable

Grayson also said, he didn't realise how bad things were another reason why I think he'll stay as egotistically (and yes, he is very confident which will grate after the humble Stuart) it would be impressive if he turned it around next season

Talking of Grayson, it seems to meet that a lot of posters are making the assumption that Grayson would not be prepared to work under Rahic's terms, i.e. with a "hands on, Director of Football" and "player recruitment comittee" etc. But where is the evidence for this?

    http://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/sport/16029363.Grayson__Forget_my_past__I__39_m_a_coup_for_Bantams/ have a read :

Grayson reckons his previous West Yorkshire links are not a factor – and believes his arrival is a "coup" for the club.

"I'm not being big-headed, they should be because I'm a Championship manager.

"To get someone like myself is a coup for the club and the owners have worked extremely hard to do that.

Wow I'm glad he wasn't being big headed with those comments .

His past history as a manager ?, he's worked for Oyston's and the mad Italian at Elland Road so maybe your right but to me he is very much in the Phil Parkinson mold who stands or falls by his decisions with regards football matters.

And yet SG has implied that since, has he not ? :)
YES ....... SG did 'Big himself up' (With his record, why not - Most of US would, with a same record).
And also, some of his interviews have suggested City ARE crap (on the pitch).
Personally ? I'd like SG to be here next season, with a relatively 'free reign'. Championship here we come, etc. ;)
