A better manager would have had us up easily and the playoffs actually masked how many times he got it wrong ..........the bottom 3 last season took 5 points away from valley parade and that's just for starters ............I'm willing to give him another 5 games but honestly I ain't holding out for anything ......... I could see us being in the bottom 2 by then ...........folk will come on here saying that a couple of wins will sort it out but can anyone see that happening ???????

 

Whatever little money of the budget is left, if any, I wouldn't be giving it to Hughes. If you don't know what you want or need, how do you know what you're looking for? The next guy in is going to be hamstrung with a load of players on long contracts. A medley of players around the midfield and defence and one goalscorer. We either sit tight and hope Hughes gets it right, or we resign ourselves to the rip it up at the end of the season, spend whatever budget on cancelling contracts and commit to another season of nothingness. He has to start by dropping Smallwood, but as I read from a previous player under Hughes, he's afraid of confronting the big names and will probably pray that Smallwood comes good. Something he hasn't done since he's been here.

 

Smallwood is an interesting one. Universally praised for his character, leadership and battling qualities at previous clubs. Maybe he's playing to orders and feels as miserable and downtrodden as fans, playing Hughesball....?

 

Its hilarious we go to a team were their manager was hated here..... I wonder if he. (Big Derek ) had them fired up maybe Hughesy????. with Songo laughing non stop thinking he is Perilot ...... let me think here ..

 

I can agree with this to some extent, especially Cook who had one of those seasons where everything he touched seemed to come off. Hughes frailties were cruelly exposed in the playoffs by a workmanlike Carlisle side where everything centred around a very good central hub in Moxon and Guy. It's a vital component of any team. We simply don't have that.

Put him at another club at this level and he will do fine and so would a big majority of them.Imagine having to go play a certain way knowing that your gonna get shit for it even though you know it ain't working .......... I ain't defending Smallwood but he and a fair few others are being hung out to dry because an arrogant loon let's it happen ..............he's from the school of Fergie where it's my way or the highway which is all good of it's getting performances but this ain't..............I recall Pep at Man City sitting the players down and letting them express there views so if the best out there can do it then why can't he ???
I tell you why because hes probably frightened that what's about to come his way

2nd half of the home play off leg last season cost us at least another 2 seasons in the Khazi league
Mr Negative and his defend a 1 goal lead obsession has cost our club more than many realise
Any new man coming in is stuck with players counting down to retirement in some cases on 2/3 year contracts who are barely good enough for National League North, hardly something to attract a new manager Players on big money not turning up, Cook and Lewis our mainstays from last season are worryingly out of form and could well go in January if not before
More and more fans are coming to the conclusion Hughes isn't good enough (some saw it middle of last season)
Those who thought/ are thinking give him more time (stability) are only sentencing us to longer in L2
Time for Hughes to go and bring in a DOF to chose and school the next manager, unfortunately I doubt anyone at the club sees it that way

 

Is he playing to orders though? His first instinct is to pass backwards, which might be fine in the championship, but as one of the most experienced players in the squad he should be bossing that midfield and setting us up to go forward, not playing with his back to goal. Something hasn't been right with him for a while, he just hasn't clicked with the fans and is becoming the first name on the hit list. As captain I'd expect him to be dishing out bollockings all over the park, but he's head down and looking at his boots. Take the armband from him and see if the weight of expectation brings about a change in mood and performance. Unfortunately the car school of Cook, Gilliead and Smallwood are a very influential clique within the squad and if they turn sour, it could have a big effect on the squad morale. Dropping Smallwood could be beginning of the end for Hughes.

 

Am certain he's "playing to orders"
However his part in the 2nd goal is down to lack of morale/professionalism and it's not an isolated incident
He had plenty of time to track back and at the very least put Mellon (I think it was) under pressure that to me is an attitude not an ability problem that can't be tolerated

 

I recall speaking to a Stoke fan when we appointed Sparkless, he said Hughes can work well with a squad ( finishing 9th), but falls short when it comes to building a team

 

If he’s scared of dropping Smallwood,who clearly was just going through the motions yesterday (as captain)then that says all you need to know about Hughes.
The best/strongest managers aren’t afraid to drop players who are not performing.
If the players don’t like it-Tough shit.

 

I seriously can't deal with these “we need to play 4-4-2”. I don't understand how people claim to be fans of football but don't have the brainpower to wonder why most clubs these days ditched the outdated formation?

 

Nevertheless, he does need dropping. Any manager has to have good communication and an awareness of cliques and how to manage in a positive manner. You need everybody singing from the same hymn sheet. A good clearing of the air where players can say what they want and offer solutions would be a start. However, no sign of that happening.

 

I would argue the lack of motivation comes directly from playing a system that you aren't good enough to implement successfully. The players we have are all competent enough at this level if they are allowed to play in a way they are comfortable with. Let them do that and the motivation, desire and confidence will increase ten fold. It's not rocket science, it's league 2 football ffs.

 

It's the Bridlington air mate very soothing I'm told, of course you're correct results go our way yesterdays performance will be classed as a part of our building process.
You get the occasional result like yesterday but not sure how he can build the whole teams confidence in a week, there wasn't one positive I could take from the game (apart from Pointon's cameo) they looked incapable of doing the simple things that was the disturbing thing. after a sleep I still feel as frustrated as after the game and I haven't felt that way for a long time, no ifs or buts he has to not merely get a result come Saturday but also a performance from the 11 selected.
