There's hardly a proliferation of players like Haaland at the top level though, given how popular high pressing setups are now then forwards do need to do more generally in the modern game, in the same ways keepers are generally required to be better with their feet than they were in the past.

One thing that doesn't change though, is the fact that if you don't score goals, you don't win games.
Therefore, your centre forwards can do all the running and link up play he wants but if he isn't contributing by goals then they'll soon look for replacements.
Fiminio is a great example of that as Liverpool have slowly but surely been edging him out. -

When you have 70%+ of the ball and your team can afford to bring players like KDB on when 5-0 up you can play in a different manner to other teams.
If you are a striker for Brentford you have to work your arse off in defence. You can literally let Haaland stand on the penalty spot and let him do what he does when you are Man City.
Spurs not selling Kane last season to Man City has now left Man City baring injuries to Haaland as a class above the rest of the league. There was a thread last season about which team is better Liverpool or Man City, the discussion now is who will finish second to Man City they are that good.
