Trawling various sites through these troubled times, any of you older chaps have any memories of games against County through the 70s, 80s and 90s ? Myself had some great and hair raising times at VP and struck up a few friendships with the older City lads. Good luck and good health to you all.

I used to love visiting Edgeley Park in the 70's and 80's. Always one of my favourite away days.

Every match seemed intense, both on and off the pitch.

No idea why there was such a fierce rivalry between the fans, given we are not exactly neighbours?

I do miss seeing Stockport County in the football league. A what I call a proper traditional football club with passionate fans.

Hopefully you will get back into the football league soon, along with Halifax and York

Remember a few pubs back in the day. The Old Vic was a slightly ‘strange’ pre match venue. Use to go to the Blossoms a bit further away, as slightly quieter and you could get a seat. A long time ago, and not to do with football, I use to meet up with friends at the Royal Oak on Hillgate, long gone I guess.

Don't know why it sticks in my memory but walking out of the train station, up an incline of cobbles to the top of the street/Road and forever met with a large group of unwelcoming Hatters fans. Wasn't there a roundabout at top of said incline? Always a good and vocal atmosphere vs County. That away end, no roof. Cold. Wet.

Kevin Francis. 6 foot whatever, always seemed to score against us, bloody nuisance, rite handful. Decent pace. I vaguely recall him scoring on the volley or was it a half volley from a long throw in at Stockport. God knows what year?

Jim Gannon. Tough as boots, must have been their years? Manager again I see...

Ten long years of despair since we last graced the league, the tide now seems to be changing having just acquired a wealthy backer.Football will never recreate the atmosphere and randomness of the 70s but getting back in the league would be a start.

Great days, as was the sound of ointment, ointment in the Belle Vue pub, trying to keep a low profile.

Weirdly, watched City since 86 and never went in Belle Vue pub. Sheltered upbringing?

First watched City at Edgeley Park 69/70 season I think. Always a great day out. Cup game when les Bradd played for them was a stand out despite losing 4-2. City fans across the pitch into the home side as usual!
Ended up living there for 3 years mid 70s when at Uni ( Heaton Moor and Brinnington) and watched County quite a few times and will always have a soft spot for them and the town. Hillside pub crawl, Robinsons bitter.

Good and bad memories of our tussles on and off the pitch, one game that comes to mind was the game at Valley Parade in 11th September 1976, we had Gerry Ingram firing them in early doors and you had ? sorry you'll have to help me out the old grey matter fails me for the name, I think both scored hat tricks that afternoon

We usually did ok at Edgely Park and they did the same at City.

I wish you well with your new backer it would be good to see
you back in the league.Stockport are in the overwhelming area
of Manchester wealth and it's hard to shine and get the support
you deserve.Too many old teams fallen into Conference and
found it hard to get back.

Remember that game very well , I think they were top of the league when they visited VP. We had some cracking games against County at Edgeley Park in the 70s and 80s. There was one played on a Friday night we were winning when the match was abandoned due to a waterlogged pitch , think John Black scored one of our goals that night.

Looking back at that game up I believe as you say @A64 Bantam@A64 Bantam Stockport had won every league game and not conceding up to them coming to Valley Parade.

My train journey to and from Bradford, for the home matches in the 1970s/80s, took me via Stockport and I used to pop into the Unity on my way back, so I got to know quite a few Stockport County 'lads' in those days.

Not really what you asked but wasn’t it vs Stockport in 2011 when your boys went down to 9 men and Gareth Evans won it very late on for us to break your hearts? We stayed up that year and went on to have some great years under parky. Did you get relegated that time?

I recall one evening game when Brian Tinnion scored a pen at the away end.
It was 20 Aug 1991 1-1 League Cup game.

It was my wifes first and last away game. She spent all game counting planes landing at Manchester as they flew overhead.

Also I recall we beat you 5-1 one sunny evening at VP. David McNiven scored a hat trick that game.

Yes that was a very tense afternoon. I think our victory guaranteed our survival whilst hammering a big nail towards Stockport's relegation. Big crowd that day. They were selling tickets for a £1 to City supporters but not County. There were quite a few County fans that had bought home tickets for the Midland Road near to where their own fans were

Attended one of our more unusual games against Stockport played at Burnden Park home of Bolton Wanderers in the very early 70's. After home and away draws in the early round of League Cup led to the game at a neutral ground. Lost,1-0 or 2-1? if i remember rightly. Teemed it down all night and got to ground late so went into nearest entrance which turned out to be the County 'end' !
