Exactly on the money there. Do i feel Stuart is underachieving with this squad? Nope. So why should he get sacked for us all to start over again?

Jon your getting soft. Last season consolidation after relegation, now we are getting what we paid for and Stuart is doing acceptably well.

Maybe @Fordy117@Fordy117 is right and that email softened you up.

Acceptably well. Your one funny lad!

Your issues aren't with Stuart, though, are they?

They're with Rupp - but your frustration is getting magnified because we're in a once-in-a-century pandemic where wasting money is about the dumbest thing a team could do.

Sorry, Dave, we're poles apart right now.

I think we need to be a little more realistic and less faux-ambitious.

Isn't building a squad part of the manager's role?

If the squad is poor whose fault is that if it isn't Stuart's? Remember how happy and relaxed he was about it in pre-season?

Hes brought in 4 players. The squad is not his.

Regardless you really think a new manager would fix that? A new manager with a different style of play. Waiting for another transfer window AGAIN to get the squad to how the new manager likes it. Because you and I both know these players are not up for it.

Look that is totally factually incorrect!

    He has signed:
    • Levi Sutton
    • Callum Cooke
    • Billy Clarke
    • Gareth Evans
    • Bryce Hossanah
    • Austin Samuels

He has also given contracts to: Scales, Shanks, Cousin-Dawson, Sikora and Staunton.

And not forgetting that SMc recruited Elliott Watt and re-signed DMH and O'Donnell. SMc has also stated he could have sold Guthrie but chose not to do so.

SMc himself has said he was happy with the squad as the transfer window was closing. That was despite there being some headroom in the salary cap and funds being available to do further strengthening if he'd wanted. Given what he could have done differently, the squad in its enirety is imo SMc's responsibility and he should be judged accordingly.

So actually 14/15 players signed under McCall’s tenure! Given the size of the squad of 28 (including a number of juniors) then around 60% of the squad are ‘his players’.

I think the pleasing thing for me recently is we have started to score goals. Yeah two Sets of poor opposition in there but 2 against Exeter was a good return.
Now if we can get some experience at the back is there a foundation for a half decent side? Possibly. He seems to have stopped the tinkering for now and that’s working clearly. I’d like a David Wheater type at the back and a hard man in midfield. If we can get clean sheets I think we can win games at this level. It’s a poor league again.

It’s a meh with McCall for me. Sacking him with no clear direction at the top is pointless and at this stage of the season where a manager cannot sign anyone? Is there any point?

Give McCall the backing in January to get 2 or 3 more in and see where we are at the end of the season. With no fans this is becoming an almost write off season in terms of finances

Dont know what your job is mate but do you like being criticised in everything you do? I agree with you he is overly sensitive at times but he gets hammered on here by some for things the posters probably are equally sensitive to

    And @Dennis@Dennis

Cooke was here when he arrived. And hes given contracts to players who we all know are not ready yet ignoring Saunton.

sacking him we would be back to square one. I dont understand these moaners who have seen Grayson, Collins, Hopkin and Bowyer come in with little to no improvement. If you think what we need is manager change with all of this evidence of exactly that not working, i dont know what else can be done.

Do you really think this squad is underperforming? On top of all the injuries we have?

For the record, Callum Cooke was on loan from Posh in 2019/20 and returned to Posh when the season was ended prematurely. SMc took the decision to re-sign Cooke in the summer on a permanent contract.

Who has said SMc should be sacked? I don't see any point in doing that until the future of the club is better understood with a new CEO and hopefully a new owner. But that's not the point. Similarly, whether the squad is under-performing or not is irrelevant in the context of what you posted.

Your original point was that it couldn't be called his squad because he has only brought 4 players in. The inference being he has some kind of 'get out of jail' card. The facts say otherwise. A majority of the first team squad are in the squad because SMc signed them, re-signed them, offered them new contracts, didn't get rid when he could have done and promoted untried youngsters (who you say are not ready) into the squad. All of those decisions were rightly SMc's as the manager. And all of this at a time when there is headroom in the salary cap, money to spend on the squad according to SMc and spare capacity within the squad numbers.

The squad as it is is SMc's and that's his responsibility. He should be judged on how his squad performs. how his squad is prepared, the tactics and formation used by his squad and ultimately on the results of the games his squad plays in. We shouldn't be making excuses for him.

In the line up on Saturday 4 who played were players he signed. So not exactly yet. And to further that point do you expect a manger to be able to play to his style no matter the quality or style of the player they have? I don't. You are suggesting that these players are good enough to compete but with a front two of clarke and Donaldson i disagree. Give him time to get players that he knows will fit into his system and style. Some of the signings i do think were down to covid and a new ceo incoming. No point having a manager or player here if the new CEO doesn't like them or their style.

Actually there were five that Stuart signed: O'Donnell, Staunton, Watt, Cooke, Clarke.

Given that he has signed approximately 60% of the squad, then you would perhaps expect that figure to be reflected in the starting 11, if not more?

The fact is that the majority of the squad, are signings made during McCall’s tenure.

I actually think we’re close to being a very good side. We have a core of young players with potential and there’s clearly a good spirit within the group.

All we need to do is add more pace and improve on our passing, tackling, crossing, shooting, heading, marking, set pieces, creativity and general spatial awareness and we’ll be sorted.

He didn't sign O'Donnell that was a contract extension. And your second point is conjecture, do we have the budget, the recruitment, the leverage to be able to sign players that excede every position we have on the pitch? No. We dont.
I bet he kept Gunthrie as we couldnt acquire a Vaughan level striker.

Not my words! ‘CITY have made offers to Richard O’Donnell and Dylan Mottley-Henry for next season. Stuart McCall today confirmed that they are looking to keep the pair, who are both currently out of contract’. https://www.thetelegraphandargus.co.uk/sport/18571883.bradford-city-bid-keep-odonnell-mottley-henry/

an extension offered by McCall. It wasn’t a forced one like Donaldson or Ismail, so his choice. He decided the OD was the best he could sign
