I think after two years of manager after manager there were three primary reasons/objectives for hiring Stuart: 1) Giving us a boost to try and reach the play offs, 2) He was an improvement on Gary Bowyer and 3) Stability.

Obviously the season's curtailment meant that we don't know if the first objective was going to be achieved - results were mixed but there was time left. I think we can safely say that objective 2 was achieved but the big one is number three. To be honest, I'm completely fed up with being the team to change managers every six months and its one of a few key reasons why we are where we are. The club haven't done much right in recent years but the contract they gave Stuart was smart - it's short term enough for timely evalutions of performance, but long term enough to provide the club with some stability. The added bonus for the board would be if Stuart could deliver the successful and entertaining brand of football he did in his second spell.

Last night was a huge kick in the teeth and an eye opener and Stuart takes the brunt of that because I thought his substitutions made it easier for Harrogate to win the game. But sacking him lands us in the same, ridiculous situation to what we put ourselves in by sacking Bowyer at the end of the January transfer window. We are going into a pretty hectic run of games, starting with a loss at winless Mansfield would ramp up the pressure. But for me, replacing the manager now would land us in much more s**t than sticking with him.

Do you really think the club will sack McCall after 4 games, if not then like it or not he will be given time, certainly until Christmas.

    Bronco.

I have NEVER said I did not have an agenda. I have ALWAYS been completely up front about this (I will let you trawl my posts) that I DO have an agenda and that is that McCall is a poor manager and should not be at this club in that capacity.

Last night Stuart hung his players out to dry, which in my mind is unforgivable......... I’ve read countless times on the match thread how bad Sutton, French, Evans even Wood played last night.
French & Wood are both better suited to a wing back role, defensively not the best but great at bombing forward. Playing a diamond with flat back 4 is always going to leave your full backs exposed, anyone who’s even played Sunday football understands this, why doesn’t our manager or coaching staff get it?
Sutton has shown previously he likes a tackle, can get round the pitch, I’ve been impressed with his attitude and work ethic, why oh why was he played right of the diamond in the first half then appeared at the tip in the second after Clarke went off? Completely out of position!!
Evans....where do you start! Was Stuart being sarcastic about not realising he’d been playing right wing back for the last two seasons At Portsmouth? Why was he played on the left of a bloody diamond? He’s our only real leader on the pitch, at least accommodate him in a role from where he can influence the game.
My big worry is many more tactical masterclasses like last night and the confidence will evaporate from the younger players.
I just get the feeling that other clubs embrace new training ideas, focus on diet, employ sports nutritionists, conditioning & fitness coaches, sports psychologists, study and embrace playing techniques from around the world......
We’ve got a couple of middle aged ex-pros, jumpers for goalposts and a bloke with a set of very high tech cones! Our players are every bit as good as the Harrogate players, it pains me to say it but our management set up is light years behind.

    Bronco, Good points overall.

On point 3 clearly I am thinking of the here and now. Scunthorpe appointed him after he had, unfairly, been fired by Bradford. But he then failed there. No one rushed in for him (always a good indicator of what is thought) and the only job he could get was back with us. And being frank I saw no evidence of big improvement before the break and nothing since.
Failed at Bradford go 1, Successful initially at Motherwell but then fell away, Succesful initially but then fell away. Failed at Scunthorpe. Back to Bradford for 3rd go. No real sense of any major improvements. But I suppose you do have a point. Mansfield, Stevenage, Leyton Orient, Oldham, Grimsby may take him on.

Not sure McCall's going anywhere at the moment but if he does fail at Bradford City this time around I would think its the end for him as a manager, possibly a number 2 again although I doubt very much Stuart would play second fiddle to anyone, maybe the position of Director of Football, again I'm not sure thats a luxury many league 2 teams have in these hard times.

I think most were pleased Stuart was
appointed again but there was "doubt"
in the minds of some I would suggest,
because he hasn't really shown he has
what it takes at this level.

His second stint was not really an indicator
but his failures at other clubs instilled
    some doubt.

I want Stuart to succeed but sometimes you
are too "close" and desperate to do well?

Hang on @Fordy117@Fordy117, aren’t you the one who criticised Rhodes and Rupp for being negative in bringing McCall back and not looking for a more dynamic manager?

Now your saying, if you were in the very same position you’d do the same?

I think the term you use and is suited to you is..

    weak......

Read his question again. He said that would I bring him back? Yes. Would I have brought him back for a 3rd go. No! but I understand why he did because it's Rhodes and it's the same old same old. Gets us bloody nowhere.

Best post so far regarding last night's game and the current state of the club. Agree with every part of it.

Last night was like going back in time to the end of McCall's first spell as manager.

Formation that doesn't suit the players he has. Too many players asked to play out of position. He looked completely helpless on the touchline when we conceded allowing Harrogate to more or less cruise through the final 20 minutes protecting their lead.

I didnt want him back for a third time, and it pains me to say, it is all going to end in tears again.

The sooner we have a new owner or CEO with vision and a long term plan, the better,so they can identify a manager who can rescue us from the bowels of the football league.

I don’t understand why he doesn’t have any influence on club policy. I understand he helps the club with his expertise and that’s it. His opinions are based on everything the rest of us base it on

I didn’t want Stuart back for a third time but he is here and it’s stupid trying or even thinking of getting rid now. We have to give him the season in my opinion it’ does nobody any good getting rid of managers every five minutes never mind after one awful result. Let’s hope he proves a few people wrong included me.
