keep hearing the phrase mcbernie sell on, and have to chuckle he was absolutely awful when we had him. In fact he was never ever gonna score for us couldn’t hit a barn door.

When I heard Swansea wanted him I was like why????? What had they seen.

Years later and look what he doing in championship. Now talks of him premier league.

They must start here shit!!! I remember thinking Pickford wasn’t up to much dad thought dean richards was lazy until realising it was his style of play.

Are we’ll bring on the millions mcburnie I like others will pretend we always thought you would make it

They obviously have a lot more football knowledge than us.

Dean Richards was a fantastic defender, maybe it was him demeanor that made him look lazy (I didn't think so) but you could see he had fantastic ability. Pickford looked very good imo. England good - not sure but he was a terrific keeper with us.

I never thought he was terrible, too light weight maybe and very young playing against seasoned centre backs and Parky sort of threw him in there.

To be fair he was a scrawny kid of 17 when he played for us and was standing in for Hanson

McBurnie was very young and inexperienced when PP had to throw him in the deep end. He was very fragile.

Man Utd took him from us for the Milk Cup where he got a lot of plaudits. We sent him out on loan to Chester a couple of years later and he bagged a few goals for them.

He went on loan to Newport, did really well there and got a contract extention at Swansea.

Oli as scored 34 goals in 36 games for Swansea U23's all together. in between this he got called up to play for Swansea in the prem league.

He went to Barnsley on loan in the Championship, scored six in his first eight games or something silly? Ended up winning player of the year for them.

Now he's Swansea's number 9 and as 17 goals for the season.

For me, its a fantastic rise for the lad and im buzzing for him. It goes unnoticed from Bradford fans, but if you look into his career, he's defied everyone and worked his arse off to get to where he is now.

McBurnie is the best possible example of when NOT to cast judgement on a player.

Industry experts repeatedly said this kid has real potential. But at 17, he wasn't ready, simple as. Some decided that 17 year old had reached his maximum potential, bizarrely, because they called him rubbish.

There is an enormous gulf between not ready and rubbish. You can become ready as you mature; its unlikely a seasoned player will become unrubbish though.

Phil Parkinson throwing him in against Rotherham was a poor decision against the likes of Claude Davis, Craig Morgan, James Tavernier, and Kári Arnason, on the day it was men and boys.

Watched him in the youth team and he was physically dominant and scored goals galore. Had to learn to play against people as big or bigger, but always looked like he could make it. Obviously has the right attitude as well.

Remember this game well Bronco, I remember the uproar from our intelligent fans about how crap Mcburnie was after that game. As you say, men against boys that day.

Whilst with us he was already part of the Scotland youth international setup and scored goals when he guested for Man Utd in a youth tournament. He was on various clubs' radar, having been identified as a serious talent by footballing judges far better and more experienced than you.

How do you know he couldn't hit a barn door for us? As I recall, in the few games he played he spent most of his time with his back to goal in a blatantly inappropriate target man role, and barely had a shot in anger, as he was outmuscled by centre halves about twice his weight. It was perfectly clear at the time that he wasn't ready for the physicality of L1 but had obvious skills, such as an excellent first touch.

Yet you decided that a highly rated but lightweight seventeen year old was 'absolutely awful' on the basis of obviously inadequate evidence. I'm glad you're not talent spotting for us. Are you Edin in disguise?

A member of his family has been on here and back on C&B stating that there isn’t a sell on.

But I think @wetherbywhaler@wetherbywhaler said there was.

One day we may find out but knowing our luck he will run his deal down and leave for free

The OP reminds me of when I first started to go to games with my Grandfather and his mates in the late 50s early 60s. Some of their comments I loved to remind them of later - "Too small for a centre half, bit slow, too much left foot", "Never make decent half back, should stick to cricket", "Lad has no clue where he's playing, all over the field".

Turned out alright though, his West Ham and Essex CCC team mate didn’t do too badly either.

Still makes my laugh to this day.

Moore didn't look that tough, and they were right about Hurst, he was no midfielder. I sort of agreed about Peters, probably because at a young age I didn't understand what he was supposed to be doing
