Maybe. To be fair, I expected us to bring in at least 1 more centre back, even if Paudie stays.

What I'd say, is that with a degree of caution, I really like the way we've started our summer business. There's clearly a profile of player we're going for - under 25, with some football league experience but with players who would seem to be on a positive trajectory or with genuine ambition and potential. We're not going for obvious signings, or journeymen. There's an indication of real scouting and planning.

Don’t know much about Platt but if it it reduces the amount of times Kelleher gets on the pitch then he’ll do for me.
Seen a few on here think Kelleher was ok.
    Absolutely not for me.
No way are we doing anything next season if we are relying on Kelleher as our regular back up centre half.

I agree another comes in but only if Kelleher or Staunton goes. Cant see us going into a season with Platt, Paudie, Songo, Kelleher and Staunton...plus 1 more.

That said, Songo may move back into CM but seems he was better at CB under Hughes.

Don’t know the lad but welcome, seems highly rated by Barrow fans who thought Bolton would be his destination.

Who knows how many of these signings will work, but it seems we’re recruiting early with a game plan in mind instead of all over the shop with no clear playing style and tactic in mind. Even if it doesn’t work under Hughes I hope we’ll look to stick with a similar playing style not chopping and changing with each manager.

As opposed to signing proven experienced players such as Sean Scannell, Anthony O’Connor and Josh Wright!

We do need more leaders that have experience though.

You can always point to the signings that didn't work out.

Agreed. Moreover, if he'd been here last year we'd have been better defensively. I'll never forget his MoM performance against Exeter, just before the pandemic. They rang rings round us, but O'Connor was always in the right place.

Get's abuse for been an Edin signing and part of the relegation team.

I don't think you'd get excited if we signed Kalvin Phillips. Probably moan about is signing Leeds players ;)

I think a Songo playing in his favoured position under Hughes / Hodges, i.e. CDM would be a revelation. It's clear that Hughe's favoured team set up, means that a good CDM is vital.

We rarely saw Songo and Watt and if the latter stays, I see nothing wrong with that pairing.

I personally disagree. Hughes football needs both holding midfielders to be comfortable in position. And mobile. Songo'o lacks mobility and whilst his use of the ball is decent at Centre Half, its way behind that of a Watt or Gillead. He needs to stay at centre back and if Watt leaves, we need to bring in a deep playmaker to replace him.

This is from Blackburns website about the lad….

A strong and commanding central defender, Platt featured in all three group games for Rovers in the 2017-18 Checkatrade Trophy campaign, before playing a key role in the Under-23s' Premier League 2 Division 2 title success, under the stewardship of Damien Johnson and Dunn.

The centre back was on the bench at Fulham at the beginning of the 2019-20 campaign before starting the League Cup first round victory over Oldham Athletic a few days later, in what turned out to be his final appearance for the club.

I think he’ll do well because he likes to get his head on everything.

That one doesn't fit the narrative though.

Its May 23rd and we have 4 new players. Walker we know who is very good at this level, Platt who is a well thought of, experienced L2 CB (doubt he is the last CB we sign) and Jake Young, another well thought of at FGR to boost the attacking options. We will still sign another striker IMO too.

Keeper I'm unconvinced with. Hopefully we bring in another to compete to give us options.

In an ideal world, I agree. But we've got a very good defensive midfielder who can tackle, pass and has energy. He simply gives the ball to Watt and / or the three other mobile front players.

I'd rather that money was spent on a very good RB.

I agree. He is as good as gone. Ideally we keep but I won't lose any sleep if he goes. 3 months ago Id have said get rid after 3.5 average seasons. Yeh, POTY twice in a row but the best of a bad bunch at times. He will be easier to replace than Watt and Vernam IMO.
