Maybe moaning about not being selected, so rather than have them bring the atmosphere down he wanted them to train separately. Can be counter productive though. Did their exclusion coincide with our dropping off after December?

From what I know Onside you are more or less right - Riley became an extremely negative influence once he was left out as opposed to fighting his way back (and perhaps some of the other out of favour players did not help in changing his attitude)

Maybe the negative came along with the negativity of the manager. If you see the scenario to your own work place - if your boss effectively said and let it be known that you wouldn't be up for any extra overtime/promotion/job opportunities and you would be told to do the basics day in day out you'd go into work with a very negative and pee'd off attitude. If you were then moved from sitting/working with all other members of staff and moved else where you be even more annoyed.

You can only fight for a place for so long without becoming extremely annoyed at the lack of opportunities, the attitude change may have been a problem but it may not have helped by the situation and Hopkin pushing them to one side and also letting everyone know that they aren't in his plans.

I'm surprised that Devine hasn't become totally annoyed by the lack of opportunites that he's been given at City. Maybe he's happy to just be a 'pro' rather than have any ambition to further his career.

I think DH came across as a bit 'old school' in his methods so you might have a point Marshy - I gather Riley was told in no uncertain terms he was not at MU anymore so probably a bit of a character/culture clash as well

I would most certainly give Riley a chance, because I don’t think he was given enough time. It was always going to be a problem given his previous grand status. Hopefully he can grab this chance as other young hopefuls have done; Josh Cullen etc.,

I heard (cant confirm it) that Wright was Rahic eyes on the football side and was his mole.
If you remember Stuart would take on board Rahic's suggestions and have the team doing it whilst Rahic was watching, then when Rahic left Rawdon Meadows the team would revert back to train as normal.

The sad thing for Riley is that, as a squad with zero width, he could have played an important part over the past three months in offering us something different.

Whatever has happened i hope he takes the new managers commitment to ‘clean slates’ and knuckles down to play for his shirt.

Whatever fans opinions of him are, history tells us all City fans want to see is someone dedicated to putting a shift in. Win his place in the squad back, put in 110% if called upon, and soon many will be willing to forget the past months.

Over to you Riley. Either you want it or you don’t.....

Does that apply to Wright too?

Surely he gets the same chance having only played 11 games for us. Not enough games, under extremely difficult circumstances to judge a player. IMO.

He was given an opportunity at the start as Captain. Not once did he bust a gut for the cause or even look like being good enough to be in the squad, let alone Captain.

If I’d seen even a glimmer of ability I’d agree with you, but I’ve seen nothing to convince me he’s up for the challenge. Worst of a bad bunch for me.

Yes, don't get me wrong I haven't been impressed with him either but if there is a player in there that Bowyer can bring out then I think he has every reason to be included as anyone else.

Yes, but he might have seen nothing and therefore he won’t be in the squad. However, if he or his training colleagues can find something they can work on them I am fine with that also. Like everyone else I was appalled at his lack of application, prancing about and telling others what to do. He didn’t have a scooby do, plus his previous clubs got shut as soon as. So maybe everybody has missed the diamond in our midst, but who knows.

I think if he's not involved tomorrow and Tuesday then he can point and direct himself permanently down the M1.

Absolutely. It applies to all players if the manager has said clean slate. He’ll get the same reaction from me if he gets back in to the team and gives his all.

However the point of the post was that I think railway has had something to offer that we’ve been missing. Not sure the same can be said for Wright?

Riley won't get in if Caddis is fit.

If true it makes me angry with Stuart as much as anything that he's willing to compromise himself in that way. If true, for me he should have resigned and made it clear what was happening. He would have easy got another job with the profile he built up.

Likely not. However it’s my understanding he’s a RB or RM. Again my point been that perhaps he could have played a part in a RM position over the past months, if he hadn’t been frozen out of the squad.

Even with Caddis fit, perhaps there could be a place on the bench for him, as a RM option or RB cover?

Mellor will certainly be in the squad, likely starting IMO.
