Should they have the job full time? they've done more in two games than the other two did.

Doing the basics with the players already available to him is one thing. Recruiting his own players, mounding them into a system and motivating them over 46 league games is something different entirely , and is yet to be proven.

From what I’ve read it sounds like he’s done alright so far but it would be a massive risk nonetheless. If he’s still here on Tuesday and picks up another good result I can sort of see the appeal in giving him a short term contact but with an important January transfer window looming i’d much prefer it if we looked long-term

No. But take their insights seriously and respect what they have achieved within 1 week versus the past 6-8 weeks.

They have done a fantastic job for us and should be applauded for that. Lets not forget though, they have been doing a fantastic job with the academy players and have brought on the likes of Staunton, Cousins-Dawson and Scales etc. If they are happy doing that, leave them to continue with that, and hopefully produce more young talent for us

My worry is, the new guy comes in and starts tinkering! Undoes all the momentum these guys gave got going.

    Or maybe not.

What WOULD be wrong with giving these guys the job til end of season, and bring in a DOF to handle transfers?

I think what they have done is taken off the immediate pressure to quickly appoint. We can take our time a bit.

if we had lost both games and extended the losing run then a quick appointment would have been needed.

Now we have a recruitment man (do we?) identifying targets for Jan, i’m happy for us to give these two a few more games as it wont matter if its these two or Hurst coming on - same targets have been scouted for Jan? Or have I misunderstood the recruitment role.

They have done brilliantly, in their position there were zero expectations on them.

Confidence is oozing out of players who were looking finished.

I would be more than happy with these guys in charge till the end of the season.

We don’t know how they’d cope with adversity as they’ve never managed us when we’ve gone behind, but they certainly deserve the Grimsby game given the reaction they’ve generated.

At worst, they’ve put their names out there and can drop back to the youth set up with newfound respect. I must admit, I couldn’t have named either before the Crawley game, for all we’ve seen Staunton et al break through this season. Well done to them both.

The players have responded to these two. There's a completely different spirit in the camp. I remember Terry Dolan making the job his own after taking a similar caretaker role, and a good job he made of it.

Some would say "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". Who's to say a new man comes in, the players aren't keen and we regress. Then what? I'm glad it's not my problem. If it was, I'd defer a decision and give them a few more games. Either way, we need to press on with filling the Head of Recruitment role.

I don't think they want it permanently? We don't want to force it on them ala Collins.

Much happier with how we played today (I didn't watch on Tuesday). I felt the team was far less naive and a simplfied system was in place for the team to work on patterns rather than punt and hope which we've seen over the past 8 weeks.

A great example was the chance for Novak approx 60mins in, it would have been an excellent team goal if he'd tucked it away.

They’ve done exceptionally well in the short time they’ve had the gig but it’s a massive gamble given where we are. Had we been in April, no chance of making the play offs or going down I’d have said yes. Run out the rest of the season, see how they get on and buy yourself time to find the right manager if they fail. If the fact the players know someone new is coming in, keeps them on their toes, then good. We don’t want them getting comfortable again thinking they don’t have to try for another 6 months.

I wouldn’t be giving them the job right now but it takes some of the pressure of finding a new manager. If they can continue to get results and steady the ship, then we can take our time to make the right appointment rather than panicking and making another bad appointment.

I agree they've done a brilliant job but they are under absolutely no pressure at all at this point. Nobody was really expecting them to come in and make the impact they have and had we lost both games, nobody would have been surprised or would have been pointing the finger of blame at Mark and Connor. However, giving them the job permanently would be a different ball game altogether as that's when the pressure would really start to build. I think it would be too much of a gamble to take that risk given where we are in the table, and wouldn't actually be fair on them either. Far better to thank them very much and ask them to carry on with the fantastic work they are doing developing the younger players.

Remember Dobby taking the reigns for one game and getting battered 5-0? These guys seem to command respect.
