Well I'd have been happy to have done that with Warnock, so would be equally happy to hear he will step upstairs at the end of his managerial tenure.

Of course Warnock only wanted to manage for 6 months meaning a step up would have been natural, whereas Hughes is here for a couple of years so he'd actually have to do well to justify going up.

Either way though, we need real ability in the board room and we have none.

I was going to post similar Fordy, to all our fans lets please not forget he is going to be working with a very underwhelming squad of players that Adams has left him with - nothing evolutionary should be expected until the summer and then we HAVE to show a bit of patience for the bigger picture to start to take shape

You may be over thinking the situation @Fordy117@Fordy117 but I do hope you correct, Hughes will have to show us and any potencial investors he can do the job.

Ok, settle down now. On paper it looks a fantastic appointment just for who he might be able to attract to our club. There is reassurances from Sparky that he gets everything he wants, that is a wait and see scenario. What I want to see, can he pull these players into a semblance of a team, now that I would like to see. Then they might get a ST sale out of me

Did you choose to read the last line and ignore the rest? My point wasn't that you should be playing like Klopp but that he would spend all week working on an anti-football tactic only to the day before instruct the players to play the totally opposite way. They may not have been suited for the anti-football he wanted them to play but they certainly weren't suited to play like Liverpool on a DAYS notice. A manager needs a clear idea of how they want to play, that allows the players to get used to it and also for recruitment to be right. His problem as a manager has been he buys players for one way, he falls back to playing a different way and when things are going bad he just throws random stuff at the players

I'm still coming to terms with what this means.

For the first time in years I genuinely feel excited to be a City fan. A man who has managed the 7th most Premier League games in history of all Premier League managers, a former Wales and Man City manager, managing us in the 4th tier.

We needed something massive to avoid attendances dropping even further and re-ignite some spark into the crowd and I think we've just got it.

I've been one of the biggest moaners and pessimists (and justifiably so to be honest) in recent months but after missing the past 5 home games I can't wait to get to VP and give our new boss a welcoming reception and cheer the team on this Saturday.

A couple of goals and a win would be brilliant to start a new managerial era.

I also think this is a statement from Rupp that he is still interested in our fortunes and he is willing to push the boat out when necessary. Perhaps we should get off his back for a bit and enjoy the forseeable.

It’s a clear sign of ambition. Can’t knock the club for that. Of course it’s only one step but hell it’s a giant one. If the club does n’t help him progress, he’ll be off. A massive statement.

He'll certainly have had to OK it with Rupp, hopefully part of the deal is to give him the best tools to do the job and as we all know money is a great help, but no guarentee of sucsess.

High profile mistake, Typical of Sparks always attracted to the shiny stuff instead of what will work, Very disappointed with this, At best it should have been a shorter term deal to see if it works

Assuming they come back down, Adams back there as manager still saying he is the best City could get - I think there will be a few points to prove!

100% agree with you & @Fordy117@Fordy117 , however what I hope is we see at least some glimmer of a spark from the players. At our level, Hughes’ past experience as a player and manager is coup for us, despite some of the outcomes not been amazing. I’d like to hope the players are somewhat inspired by this and can at least give us fans something to believe in after the tripe they’ve delivered so far!

My only question is what credentials does Hughes have to manage at this low level?

Too negative for me Trevor, there's still a chance he takes over from Ryan which can only be a positive.

Does feel like we're upping the stakes with every roll of the dice though.

If this isn't double or quits I don't know what is.

How would they take a bigger, higher profile gamble than this next time??
