Don't care which team you support (politics or football), this is a first rate case of using your position and by association, the platform it gives you for the greater good. Read the BBC last night and was impressed with how he stated his case. Just seen now the policy has been "changed". I also liked the comments Johnson made too. Well done Marcus Rashford.

Comes from actual horrible experience of what it’s like to grow up in poverty, unlike those at the top who could never claim that, good on him, using his profile for good. Top bloke.

Oh..but wait a minute, he once bought an expensive car, and has a terrible taste in clothes..Nope, not having it, he should stick to football

They could throw up temporary buildings easily with the right organisation but who would staff it? If it were up to me I'd have the schools back tomorrow with 100% of pupils in but it's not and it won't be for some time. I think if they were to change the 2metre rule to 1 metre we'll be heading that way but until then it is what it is.

exactly that and an mp Therese Coffey attempted to knock his point this morning on twitter for a quick point scoring exercise and was slated for it.
Rashford had tweeted to say we must not stop because somewhere a family with go without a shower this morning as it’s turned off so they can eat. I think his point was more that they couldn’t afford the bill to heat the water but that out of touch moron above tweeted him back to state “you can’t turn off water it’s illegal”.
She has offered not one response to his letter sent yesterday and decided to try and point score with that. I mean who have we even got in power. A bunch of self centred morons. As I’ve said before get rid of the lot and time we got some real representation from all walks of life

I've seen this story knocking around Twitter. Seems a nice lad that wants to put something back. The people he wants to help are innocent children, entirely blameless for the situation they were born into. These children are the future of our country. It's in the country's interest for them to be of healthy body and mind and this can only help this, especially in these particularly challenging times. Who would deny these children a leg up? Who would happily see them go without? Who would argue against this even though it will have absolutely zero impact on his/her life right now?

I wondered that before opening the thread already knowing the answer.

What you would call a result.
I dont think it has been mentioned on here but Rashford is part of a fund raising charity that has raised approx £20 million.
Another ten million and he'll be in for a knighthood.

A country that has spent or will spend 20 billion on the furlough scheme has “no money”. Baffling.

Not everyone who relies on free school meals is a sponger or a lay about as the media would have you believe. People fall on harder times through no fault of their own and need the support. In an exceptional time like this with such uncertainty about futures, an extra 6 weeks of the free school meals would be a lifeline to so many. It’s not all about giving people something easy. Being born in this country should be a chance for everyone to benefit from what we have made and created over the years, but that’s for everyone. Not the ones who have money and to penalise the ones that don’t. Why should we leave anyone behind? It baffles me why we would want to.

The councils were given over the last few months 3.2 billion pounds For extra spending . On top of that they received 62 million designed for free school meals.

The £62mill which Councils have been given isn't specifically for school meals. It is for Councils to use to help all vulnerable families in their areas for the duration of the pandemic which might well be many more months. It will be for Councils to decide how to use those funds which may or may not go toawards free school meals. That compares rather unfavourably to the £120mill needed just for free school meal vouchers which will last for just 6 weeks. The disparity between what is needed and what the Govt says it will provide is only too obvious.

I hope Rashford is successful with his campaign and our Govt changes its position in England.

I have to say how impressed I was with the building and kitting out of the Nightingale hospitals. It shows what can be done when there is a Govt will to do it ... and the planning and logistics are dealt with by experts, the military in this case.

With schools however, isn't it a simple case of maths? Secondary class sizes of circa 30 have to be reduced in half to 15 or so to meet the current social distancing instructions. That means that twice as many classrooms are required to accommodate the kids and twice as many teachers are required to teach them. I doubt very much that schools will have spare classrooms and teachers going spare.

It certainly needs some creative thinking (Portakabins anybody?) but additional classrooms and teachers won't be the easiest thing to source at short notice.

Great news all round, well done to you Mr Rashford. Brilliant to see a role model like this emerging for kids to aspire to, both as a footballer and a human being. Good on you lad.

I saw him play for England at Elland Road just before the last World Cup. He blew me away. He was outstanding. Now, bear in mind that I was used to seeing Kai Brunker play at the time, but still.....

Thats the main Problem , very few in the current house of commons have emerged from what could be called the treadmill of " normal ""( whatever that means ) life . The vast majority come from a legal or media job , they are mainly university educatated , there can never be a true section of society with the voting system we operate .

I'm also concerned regarding 12-15 year olds missing a vital part of their educational future . According to stats less than 1% are doing any course work , keeping children fed is paramount , but so is their education . Everyman and his dog seem intent on putting obsticles in the way of a return to school . The future of kids is being used like a shuttle *@?$ , with irrational views on both sides of the political spectrum and by the unions . If we can have Nightingale units up and running within a month there is no reason IMHO why the same can't be done for schools .

The problem is Tony, you and they need to see the bigger picture. Rashford was a free school meal kid and will now contribute more tax than you and I probably will in our lifetimes about 10 times over. Maybe not you if you’ve been lucky enough in your career but certainly me.
Another example just from Rashfords tweet is carol vorderman who stated she was a free school meals kid and she is now a millionaire I think. Again paying a hell of a lot more back than it will have cost to feed her back then.

It’s about giving all children a fair chance because they can go on and become viral contributors to our future. They can concentrate on their education and their future without the worry where the next meal will come from. It’s really that simple for some kids. Why anyone is begrudging them that and can’t see the benefits of it for all is baffling.

We are in a day and age of such food waste too and we cannot feed the kids we have in this country. It’s definitely the right thing to do
