That hasn't been my impression, but you may well be right. Liverpool is certainly in Manchester's shadow though, not that anyone from there will ever admit it. Incidentally, a friend of mine who is a Man U fan tells me everyone at Old Trafford are praying City win the title. They hate Liverpool with a passion.

Liverpool isn't in Manchester's shadow at all? You been recently?

Many people now say Leeds is the capital of the north.

As for the footballing side the only reason some Utd fans want City to win the league is because they've 20 titles and Liverpool 18.

Utd fans are an embarrassment really because they're now the second club in Manchester and seem happy about it! How the mighty have fallen.

They're the second best team in Manchester but they'll always be a bigger club. The reality is that Liverpool have always been their bigger and fiercer rivals and always will be.

If Liverpool fans had to choose between United or Everton winning the league they'd go Everton every time. Same thing.

Nah they won't be the bigger club though. City are richer and yes less league titles but I would say that with 20 years they will over take Utd on the number of titles won and CL titles.

Utd are done with now. Second club in Manchester and for Utd that's an embarrassment.

True people from Manchester won't want City winning the league at all.

Firstly where have you got that United fans are happy ending behind City? No united fan is happy about that, we what to be beating them to titles. However given the choice United fans would prefer city winning over Liverpool and it has nothing to do with number of titles. We would also prefer City winning the league over Leeds. Rivalries between Manchester and Liverpool and Leeds go well beyond sport, these are century old rivalries which Sport has only enhanced. So with City we don’t have that non-sport rivalry and we haven't really had a sporting rivalry with them until the last couple of years.

It’s like how I’d PA ended up in the same division as you and Leeds, your fans would hate Leeds more than PA as there is a bigger sporting rivalry and also more non-sport rivalry that drives the Bradford/Leeds rivalry

It's like an acceptance that Utd are now the second club in Manchester and been overtaken by the noisy neighbours. It's embarrassing!!

Utd the so called biggest club in the world bothered about clubs in other Cities but let the club in the same city totally and utterly shame them year in, year out of late.

Biggest club in the world, don't make me laugh.

You are just being ridiculous if you think rivalry’s grow almost overnight. Would anyone attending a Bradford City game describe PA as an actual rival? Hell no because there has been very little to feed a rivalry. Pre-Fergie retiring they had beaten us in league position once since 1980. Even going further back there are only a handful of instances. Expecting a real rivalry to have developed is like expecting Arsenal and Spurs to now think of Chelsea as their biggest rival. Rivalries aren't just fickle things that just happen in a split second, they are emotional things that often need decades to develop at the very least. In the 90's United didn’t suddenly see Newcastle or Blackburn becoming our biggest rivals because it’s just way more than having a run of placing higher

Fully get rivalry but you don't see City coming hence why you didn't take them seriously. Now they've overtaken you and it's a case of sh@t how can we hide our embarrassment as fans? That's it we will say it's all about Liverpool or Leeds.

Outside of Utd though no one is fooled. We know Utd are the second club in Manchester and falling like a stone.

I don't believe the players want City to win the league as they know it would be heartbreaking for the nearest club to win the league AGAIN while they win Nothing(unless they do win the CL to be fair).

    Hello pot, meet Kettle :)

And it’s not about living in the past, it’s about the complexities of rivalries that go beyond a small term amount of success. If the owners haven’t got bored and they don’t implode when Pep quits (as that’s been the Owners one and only plan) the transition to the next manage is where things get tough jon them then things may change

Quite frankly I couldn't give two hoots about Manchester United, Manchester City or Liverpool unless we meet em in the Cup.

You say you understand rivalries and then dismiss why long standing rivalries that go beyond football mean more as just being 'fan excuses'. If United weren't going to win it we would have preferred Spurs, Arsenal or Chelsea to beat City but the city rivalry lacks the real emotional element of the Liverpool one. If they are still up there in 10-20 years then perhaps the United/City rivalry will have overtaken the United/Liverpool one but right now too early for that to have developed

And sure some of players may prefer Liverpool to win rather than City because of the nature of modern football clubs but trust me the likes of Lingard and Rashford don't fall into that category.

They continue to buy other football clubs under the Man City umbrella. They aren’t going anywhere. They will make Man City the number one club in world football in the next ten years

While I'm not expecting them to pull out or even just take a step back, I don't think you can ever be so sure about owners, especially when it’s an Arab countries royal family who have more money than sense and will often throw silly money at the next plaything the want but when the next shiny thing comes along get bored of it.

I wouldn't even say what they are doing with the City Group really suggests too much long term ambitions. These other clubs are being bought very much as a way to 'financial dope'. The new kit deal for example is with City Group not City themselves and covers all but 2 of the clubs. Their previous deal was the same but with fewer clubs involved BUT City got a disptoporational amount of the fee paid. And most of their non-playing staff are on the books of City Group not City themselves with City just leasing them for limited hours thus cutting their non playing staff contribution to the FPP regulations much lower than they should be making it easier to to meet them. Again it could be a long term venture but it could be a short term measure to achieve their goal of winning the CL. I feel there is just a smuch chance of them having cut right back or sold up in 10 years time as them still being there pumping in money in 2050

Utd are brought up to dislike Liverpool just like we're brought up to dislike L**ds but if PA all of a sudden started to be a better and bigger club than us then I would want us to be the best club in Bradford and I would forget about L**ds.

Bottom line is that Utd fans are now turning into losers!! Because they know that they can't complete with City on or off the pitch and using the rivalry with Liverpool as an excuse.

Truth is Liverpool are over taking them as well!

Bottom line is even if Liverpool don't win it this season then they're the team that can challenge City and if City slip up in any year then it's more than likely that Liverpool will be the ones to win the league!

Utd are failing and deep down you know it and I find it sad and embarrassing that Utd can't concentrate on themselves to get them back to where they were.

As for your Rashford/Lingard comment we will see when Utd play City. See how small club Utd are now because winners want to win. Win evey match and I think these two players are winners. They'll go out to try to beat City. It's the Utd fans that have become losers! So Utd would rather not be in the CL then Liverpool win the league? Wow!! Seriously? Think the players will want CL and against City they will give it everything and rightly so.

What is funny also is they're doing a Liverpool. When was the last time UTD won the league? See while they concentrate on other clubs they're failing massively themselves! If I was an Utd fan I wouldn't care who won the league because I would be concentrating on my club and wanting them to get back to winning ways and become the biggest club in Manchester.

Now the fact is Utd are the smallest club in Manchester and that must hurt but get use to it because City will overtake Utd in winning the most titles!

Would rather City win it. Hate both United and Liverpool.

From a neutral point of view, I couldn't give two fecks about United vs Liverpool ('The biggest derby in England'), however I count down the days when Liverpool and City play and look forward to watching an exciting game of football.

Manchester United are in both their shadows at current.
