In the light of the last couple of weeks can the public be trusted to stick to the 2m rule ?, packed beaches - demonstrations ( not allowed prior to June 1st ) . If there is a 2nd wave can the Government be blamed ? , even when lockdown was in force people flouted the clear advice and carried on doing what they wanted . Whatever the following few weeks bring people should show some common sense , the Government are now between a rock and an hard place under pressure to ease lockdown , and now being accussed of easing retrictions too fast .

    The Government can be blamed.

The majority of scientists are saying it is too early, we are still at 8,000 plus new infections a day. However, they have built expectations that should not have been encouraged.

I was out yesterday and social distancing was clearly not a concern for many people. Then schools will open further and the number of interactions will grow exponentially. I might be wrong, but I think in early to mid July we will be in a very difficult place.

I understand all the concerns , but even with with restrictions in place people ignored them , it is getting more and more difficult to stop the gatherings and i dont think the government could further enforce it without real draconion measures , which in turn would lead to more problems .

    I agree with that.

There were 200-300 people out in Salford yesterday, blatantly ignoring any social distancing and there was no way the police could do anything about it safely.

I get that there is a fatigue factor with compliance and coming out is going to be exceptionally difficult to manage. However, by keeping it tighter, with less room for activity, until new infections had dropped further would have been better.

The government have failed to take into consideration the selfishness and idiocy of a lot of the general public, most can’t be trusted to social distance which is why it will fail.

I agree with you. The advice on whether to loosen the lockdown criteria appears to be mixed at best. I understand that the Govt has to consider the much wider implications of the lockdown beyond health and safety considerations to include the economic consequences, the social implications and the general disruption to our way of life. But the impression I get is that those things combined with the political consequences of recent events have taken taken priority over safety issues and scientific advice.

We still don't appear to have a coherent and cohesive strategy to deal with the pandemic which is one reason why our mortality rate from Covid 19 is so high compared to other developed countries. And this recent relaxation feels like more of the same and a bit of a knee jerk reaction. Nobody knows at this stage how the country will respond but some of the scenes over the weekend don't fill me with much confidence. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see a spike in the rate of infections over the next 2 to 3 weeks and if that is the case, the fingers of blame will be pointing in every direction!

Do we have an exit strategy or was it a nice document and PowerPoint we produced to stop the media asking the question?
We had shielded people being allowed out at phase 1, we are currently at phase 4 based on the R rate yet they can go out? It’s a total mess and even the public health website still said 2 days ago they should continue to shield until 30th June.

I posted on here a while ago that the majority of the general public are moronic in this country and I still standby that. However the slow lockdown, the piss weak enforcement of the lockdown, the lack of clarity, the lack of quarantine people coming into the country, the clear non-existence of a track and trace system despite it being promised by today, is the reason the government takes full blame for this. They are slowly switching the narrative on social media to public’s fault. If we let them get away with it, it’s criminal.

Well, after all the stuff going down with covid, I was dues to fly out tomorrow but Delta finally notified me just over a week ago that my flights are all cancelled. Unfortunately the newly introduced quarantine rules mean I almost certainly will not now be coming over. (Unless I can convince the airline to fly me to Ireland instead). Hopefully all the quarantine and lock down issues will be sorted by October when I would next be coming over.

The Lock down had to be lifted, The Tory Grandees and upper classes were desperately worried the general public would get used to the same lifestyle they enjoy getting paid for doing nothing and enjoying a life of leisure :)

Slavery never went away. They just paid the working classes a bit more to stop them complaining
