Million a week and a massive signing on fee would be a guess. I doubt they can afford it and fit under FFP unless they have some iffy sponsorship from a company linked to the owners. Especially if they still want Kane.

Well considering they have just given their number 10 shirt to Jack Grealish I doubt it plus they want Kane who will cost 150m at least now.

FFP isn't worth the toilet paper it's written on. City will be in for him.

It’s been so called relaxed this year hence why the oil clubs are spending like crazy. City are owned by a country though

Pep has spent over 1 billion in 5 years.

Messi's greed is absolutely staggering. I get he's the best player in the world and takes what he's given but that added to his tax problems shows just how greedy he is. I hope no-one agrees to pay him what he wants, but guess he will rock up at PSG.

    You’re dangerous.

First of all please know what you are talking about.

Messi agreed a 50% pay cut like most of the Barca squad.

The contract was agreed but Barca can’t sell some of their other players and they is a wage cap in Spain next season.

Also you do understand that Messi could have moved clubs when ever he wanted for lots of money. Bloody hell if we are talking 150m for Harry Keane. Messi would have been at least 200m plus.

Don’t be calling players greedy when they are not. He is successful and deserves what he gets.

Think him making the millions he did at Barca is whats got them into the financial hole they are in right now. No club in the world would have been daft enough to pay him the reported £2.1M a week he was on in his final years of his deal. This was from L'Equipe at the end of January, when they did a dive into the biggest contracts in football at the moment. Messi was top of the list....

"A copy of the 33-year-old's enormous contract at the Catalan club has been obtained by Spanish publication El Mundo, who claim the six-time Ballon d'Or winner earns a maximum of €555,237,619 (£491,732,285.73) over four seasons if a series of conditions are met.

On top of that, Messi's four-year deal at the Camp Nou included a signing-on bonus of €115,225,000 (£102,046,134.28) for accepting the initial renewal, and a massive loyalty bonus of €77,929,955 (£69,016,712.10).

That means with just five months left on the deal agreed between club and player in November 2017, the player has already earned €511,540,545 (£453,033,066.98) - although he would have had to pay around half of that amount in taxes.

If you breakdown those numbers, the Argentine forward rakes in a reported €138,000,000 [£122,216,242.40] per season and, if those numbers are indeed correct, it would confirm Messi is in possession of the biggest deal in sports history."

Fabrizio Romano had details of the Barca deal which was indeed for him to take a 50% pay cut, but even still he would have made £60 million a season over a 4 year deal. Even at just over a million a week, that is crazy money and not many clubs in the world would even offer his reduced terms.

You honestly believe there are other clubs out there who would have paid him what Barca have ? Even Man City ?

Wow, so he agreed to cut his £50million salary to £25 million. So bloody what. £50mill per year is greedy but £25mill isnt. Yeah right. Also you are talking transfer fees not wages.

He's a greedy tax avoider. Great player yes, greedy as hell. Definitely.

Unlike Ronaldo who has tested himself in three of the major leagues in Europe Messi has been confined to la liga
It would have been interesting to se how he would have done in the premiership or Italy

Really feel we need a separate thread for Messi talk, but...

    It is possible that both:
    • £25m per year is a good value to Barcelona, because he's so tied in to their commercial deals and their outward marketing that it's considered a worthy investment
    • That salary wouldn't be of the same 'value' to other clubs, who aren't tied into it

To be honest, I personally see it as being advantageous for Barcelona in footballing terms, they've been stale for years because of Messi, not in spite of him. The very top well-run clubs have moved on tactically from having single players who are carried in the defensive phase and it's no coincidence (IMO) that Juventus and Barcelona have struggled in the last couple of years in latter stages of European competition. Liverpool, Manchester City, Bayern, Inter, Atletico Madrid and several other top clubs have found the high press, defending with their forward players to win the ball high and moving quickly, to be the most efficient counter to the possession-at-all-costs-based tactics that were behind Barca's decade of dominance.

In Depay and Griezmann, they have potential for a very hardworking front-line with a youthful midfield behind them - with the right drilling, this could be a footballing blessing in disguise. The biggest loss IMO is to Barcelona's commercial teams...

Is he? I won’t deny that his teams produce fantastic football, but he’s managed 3 teams, each of which have had by far the biggest and best squads in their league, and an unlimited chequebook at City. Spend 50m on a centre back and he has half a bad season? Never mind, here’s another 80m. Lacking a quality reserve left back for the Carabao cup games? Here’s 60m.

Other historical managerial achievements are far more impressive. What Klopp’s done is much more impressive. Let’s see him take over Spurs or Everton and win the league.
