You know what we might be in the Khazi League but the one above is just bloody awful ?. Coventry v Tranmere 90 minutes that would definitely do the Khazi League justice !. Watched yesterdays lowlights on Quest and theres zero difference between these leagues.

On the basis of the small sample of games I've seen this season and the frequent games I saw at league 1, I'd definitely begger to differ on their is 'zero difference'.

Really !! I think the opposite, I’ve been surprised by Gulf in class between both leagues. We are 3rd and the form team in the division without really pulling up any trees so far.

My guess would be that the closest two leagues in terms of standard would be league 2 and the conference

I watched Bolton Blackpool and both teams were awful I’d say the difference is minimal

I watched Bradford v forest Green and both examples were appalling games. But for example, have you seen any performance by any team at league 2 level, akin to Barnsley home or away last season?

The football played in League Two is of poorer quality in my opinion as is the officialdom.
Not one club is running away at the top.
Just look at the points for column in the League table, lose one or two games on the trot and you plummet faster than a lead weight.
Promotion really is anybody's this season.
A clearer picture will appear in the New Year and I firmly believe City will be up there challenging but I've yet to see any of our opposition play us off the park such is the level of quality performances shown in League Two.

But to be fair and to counterbalance this debate, look at the likes of Luton, Doncaster etc in the last few years that have gained promotion and gone on to gain another straight after. Other teams such as Pompey, Plymouth, Oxford and Coventry have all faired well the season after gaining promotion.

In fact, most teams that come up tend to finish mid-table or higher. Admittedly, that’s not the same as the OP stating there is zero difference between the leagues. I believe momentum plays a huge part, both for promoted teams and relegated ones too. Luckily, Bower has managed to arrest our slide, but other sides have found it harder. And those finishing strongly in L2, tend to start well in L1 and with good summer additions, it’s possible to do a Burton or a Luton

I agree with OP here, i genuinely think we would be a mid table league one side now. The standards are quite similar between the two. I think wimbledon and southend would be in the relegation zones regardless of league... The only exceptional side in all 48 teams (L1 & L2) is Ipswich! They are already 5 pts clear and still havent lost a game yet.

How can you determine Ipswich are exceptional yet the others have similar standards amongst the other 47 teams? Have you seen them all personally.

The biggest difference between the two tiers is finishing, the better strikers and players with end product often are higher up the food chain. I don’t think there is much in it except for the teams that come down from the championship, as cougars points out most if not all who get promoted from this league fair well. The teams that came up from non league are arguably struggling this season more than those who were promoted from this league, although there is more.

We’d be fine if we get promoted I’m certain of it, I’m
Certainly more confident than I am of us actually getting promoted this season.

The gap that worries me is league 1 to the championship, we’d have to do something special just to consolidate now the gap is so big.

I think Barnsley’s struggles illustrate the gap in the Championship and League 1. It would be difficult to make the jump. I think Luton will be found out. However three of Reading/Stoke/Huddersfield are also in a mess, so they are vulnerable for the drop.

A good post. However, I think I’ll take the credit for the comment about teams doing well when promoted from L2.

Who else is 5 pts clear in league one and two? Is that a fluke they have 27 pts out of a possible 33? That is what to me makes them exceptional. What do you see that makes you think otherwise buddy?

Highlights from a couple of weeks back.

4 goals that no matter how bad we were last year, i still dont think we'd have conceded.
