I thought the club was investing in youth - how can this be?

IF this is true, I can hear some very loud alarm bells ringing. No surprise then, that Head Coaches are allegedly turning us down.

Could mean that all funds are now being pumped into the first team, which is a good thing in the short term. The youth team / development squad idea doesn’t work until we’re in the higher leagues with a bit more cash.

Don’t come on here with rational ideas and positivity. The club is being run into the ground by two foreigners. Didn’t you hear?

But where would that leave us as a club ?
Scale it down to reflect our current status, for sure. But to totally abandon it would be a step backwards, IMO.
City again would be left with that 'gap' between Apprenticeship and first team level.

If players are good enough after U18 level then either put them in the first team or loan out.

Would explain why Collins left recently, as some reported.

Not sure of the short term benefits. The majority are on 2-3 year deals. Even Callum Gunner's contract got renewed.

    Agree with this.

The problem with the development squad is that it is being funded from income, and takes time for it to give a positive effect. The idea is sensible, but is detrimental to the first team squad in the short-term and does represent a gamble.

I might get shot down for this, but I’d have thought owners who are in it for the long-term might have continued to invest. My question is whether it is just the u23 squad, or whether it extends down to younger players as well?

I know that we are getting the pitch sorted, which is a positive, but if the closing down of the development squad is true then it further knocks my confidence in the motivation of the owners.

It makes sense and is what a lot of those against the owners have called for. It may have been one of Graysons recommendation, but how does this play with Rahic?

If this is being done to allow more money for the first team, then great. If not, how is the new head coach expected to develop youngsters without throwing them into the first team?

It’s a bit concerning (if true) that decisions are being made prior to the appointment of the head coach.

If there good enough once they’ve graduated then they should be in the squad or loaned out for experience getting real game time. If a player hasn’t made it by the age of 22-23 then they shouldn’t be retained anyway, even if in an under 23 squad. It costs too much money to hope that maybe by that point one or 2 will come good, whilst we stagnate in league 1 or worse. Get the money spent on the first team I say.

Maybe they are struggling to get a head coach with a development squad in place. The budget constraints maybe putting people off.

Stuart and Grayson have both said you can't have 19000 fans wanting promotion and blood youngsters at the same time.

Maybe R&R are listening and learning......

If it is defiantly true I wonder if it's a case of putting the idea on hold to see if any of the players brought in so far are sold for a tidy profit then reinvest that into the development squad so it becomes self funding something I did point out last week on here. Spending £300k last season was a decent chunk taken away from the 1st team something we can't afford to do each season without seeing the rewards.
