With a name like Danny Devine a career in the porn industry awaits

On a serious note, as he was warming up on the touchline for the 3 millionth time on Saturday I just thought to myself what are you doing with your career lad surely you would just move on

I’m not sure any club would want them if they have had a year on the sidelines. I am damn sure we would not be that enthusiastic if we were wanting to sign a player who had not played for a year. They are only average players. My point is they can’t rely on high status. As for short careers in football, yes it is then they move on to do other paid work. You can’t give that as an excuse to paid more than you are worth.

However, it is not their fault that we signed them on high wages, Edin can take that honour. Paying them up is the same they won’t accept less unless they have something else lined up. Plus their wages will all come out of the bank of Rupp now!! You do realise that we are skint and every penny is spent and that Stefan is funding day to day running on the club, plus agreeing further spending to try and keep our status in league one.

Should we play players that DH doesn’t think will add to the team? We have to rely on the manager and others to assess the players, because we can’t afford to lose any more than we have to. I would be worried playing those players tbh.

I assume one of the two you are referring to is Alex Jones. Believe it or not he has made two League substitute appearances this season. Although against Coventry (the first mass walk out) he came on in the 69th minute only to be substituted himself in the 80th minute. Personally I think his career may well be over, or at the very least for many months, when his contract with City will have expired.

    As for Reeves..............?

Ched Evans for example wasn't short of offers and he was inside.

6 months - 12 months not playing is nothing these days.

Taylor found a club quick enough after leaving us.

Robinson would walk back into our team anc he hasnt played for months.

If I am Wright etc I am staying. The wages paid are City's problem. I think these players move only if they get the same wages elsewhere that will mean City will have to contribute to their wages.

You can't blame the players! Hopkin decision not to play then and I think it's foolish myself.

Ched Evans was/is a very good player. Likewise Taylor. The wages are an obsticle. If I am footballer with a short career I would want to be playing.

And they will be playing but in life as you know other things come along and it's all about money & security.

Remember they're not injured so will enjoy training with the lads. 6 months on high wages - no brainer. Why do you think Hopkin sounds keen to move them on? He knows he couldn't blame them for sitting on the wage.

Yes your right, but it so frustrating. If we play them and they are not good enough our club suffers. If we don’t as you say they are sitting on a wage. I know the players on our bench are not good enough either, but probably have a better attitude, and sometimes a good work ethic is better.

They only way it could get better but it will cost Stefan more more net is to pay them off, but like the rest of us is so angry at what has happened.

Sounds like more unrest, players being told they're not wanted.Players mostly get along and stick together. If these five have been ostracized then that could upset team spirit?

To my mind, it is this simple:-
    1. The players mentioned in this thread will very probably never play again at this club.
    2. They are being paid well (by normal standards), so why the hell would they just leave?
    3. In the case of Jones, he probably knows deep down that he is finished, so even more reason for him to take the brass that we are obliged to pay him.
    4. Reeves? A disgrace IMHO. He came in to training a few weeks ago complaining of a 'sore' calf I think. Bless! Work shy bas*ard. He looked half decent early on, but this is beyond a joke now.
    5. Devine should have been given a starting place for some time several seasons ago and then we could have seen if he had it in him. We have messed his career up badly.
    6. Who is Riley? Save for a very poor player that we seemingly are paying rather well.
    7. Sadly, I know who Wright is. That Twit who will not run or tackle and cannot pass or shoot. Our erstwhile Captain for God's sake. Mind you, he does have lovely hair and he 'can't half' whirl his arms around. Another disgrace as a supposed professional. In any walk of life / employment, if you did as little as this p*llock, you would expect to be sacked. Football contracts being what they are, this is not possible. Sod it, sack him and let him take us to an Employment Tribunal. We can rightly point out that he lied at the interview, by saying he is a footballer and that he is committed and will work hard.

Thing is though at their level they’re not on the sort of money that sets you up for life and they want the lifestyle of a successful footballer. Take Riley, his two year contract will be £600k, 10% for the agent and a third in tax, £300-350k left over two years, if they’re sensible half of that in a pension. Nice money, but they’ll have mates who are on 10x their salary and want to live the same lifestyle. Cash counts for most players. There are players up and down the country not playing and happy to see their contracts out.
