Love him or hate him, I admire his forthright comments about the situation at Oxford. I wonder what the thoughts are of all managers in the same position, including our own David Hopkin??

"After seeing his under-performing side drop back into the League One relegation zone, Oxford United manager Karl Robinson says he is red-faced by the club's standing in the table.

The former MK Dons and Charlton Athletic boss saw his side turn in a lacklustre performance in going down to a 1-0 defeat to Peterborough United at the weekend and with Gillingham beating Scunthorpe United by the same scoreline, the U's are back in the relegation places and one of FOUR teams on 33 points.

In fact, there are just five points separating Bradford, who are 23rd and Plymouth Argyle who are 15th after drawing 0-0 with the Bantams at the weekend.

Oxford went into the game unbeaten in five games, four of which were draws, but they were poor in defeat to a Posh side that are just outside the League One play-off places.

“I’m embarrassed,” Robinson admitted. And when the U’s boss was asked to clarify the statement he said: “From where we are in the league.

“We don’t win enough games. The league table is the judgement of you as a manager and a player.”
He added: “What this team doesn’t have a tendency to do is be in a game like this, turn the screw and win 1-0.

“They don’t sniff blood and go for the jugular.

“When there’s an atmosphere in the ground we’re great, but when it’s not, we let games slip away.

“That’s why we’ve drawn too many games this year and it’s why we end up losing here, because we switched off.”

I admire Robinson's honesty and agree with him that he should feel embarrassed. He inherited somebody else's squad as do all managers but he has had a full transfer window in which to rebuild his own squad to his own requirements .. and give them a full pre-season and then a January transfer window in which to tweak the squad! The consequences of all of this is his team is in no better position than we are.

ps Having said all of that, I hope Hopkin is feeling equally embarrassed despite the extenuating circumstances surrounding his squad's performances.

Can't take to the bloke. Nothing's his fault.

Robinson, Graham Wesley and Steve Cotterill are all cut from the same cloth.

If they were made of chocolate they would eat themselves.
