A player, who for some reason seem to get unfair stick in his time with us.
Good to see him fulfilling his potential for Carlisle, a hat-trick at Bolton - goes someway to prove that.
Also shows the importance of good coaching - so instead of some on these boards slating players after half a dozen performances, perhaps we occasionally need to look at how they are managed.

Look at when he scores his second at Bolton. Instead of running straight to the 4500 Carlisle fans he turns away to run and celebrate in front of the Bolton fans first.
Basically, he's a c*** and wouldn't get in our side even now if he was still here.
25 and this is the first season he's been a regular first team pick and it's only been brought up because he's scored a hattrick. Well, one was a penalty and one was because the opposition keeper came up for a corner. 3 goals is 3 goals but you aren't scoring 2 of them every week.
Let's not mention either that even with the hat trick he's still only just scraped into double figures after a century of games for Carlisle so I'm not really concerned that we've missed out.
I've also noticed the same poster that's bigging up Gibson is doing the opposite with Jake Young despite the fact that before Saturday he's scored as many goals in 10 games for Swindon as Gibson had in 100 for Carlisle.
To sum it up, I know which footballer I'd take if given the option. The Original EB and Dennis like this. -

I think we need to understand that better. For instance Tulloch has gone from been a Tyrek Wright to the worst player ever in the space of two matches!! Osadebe continues to get abused, even when he has a reasonable 20 mins.
I suppose with our fan base there will be more supporters on a players back, via this format and lots of them read social media.
Anyway, good luck to him. -

If Jake Young had stopped at 3 instead of scoring 4 then he'd be mature weeks ago but it looks like his poor attitude had him greedily grabbing another. -

After his horrific injury last season I really want him to do well. But so far I am failing to understand what he’s supposed to be any good at. -

80% down to the player. And I agree with you, the Gibson of last season and before isn't missed at this club.
The 2023/24 version, holding his own in struggling L1 team, plus having his manager moaning on his behalf that he's the penalty taker and should have taken the one the other team-mate missed, probably could enhance our team now.

I'm not arguing that he didn't have a poor attitude before. I'm arguing that his treatment by some fans, on these boards, was very poor. And I'm pleased that he is at last fulfilling his potential.
Please point out where I've said I don't want Young to fulfill his potential. Several times, I've posted that I'd be delighted if the gets 20 goals by Xmas so we can then sell him for a ridiculous fee in January to a desperate L1 club (like Villa did with Wright)
I just don't go along with the narrative, that it was obvious that Hughes made a mistake. Like Gibson before (and IMHO!!) I think there have been 'attitude' problems with Young, here, Forest Green and at Barrow. He came on at half time against Crewe last season and look less interested than I do, when the missus wants to drag me around a shopping centre.
As I said, I hope he does well. Youngsters learn at different speeds. Could be that, been back down south has helped him as well. Good luck to him. Let's just not load on to Hughes as if it was an obvious mistake. -

Posting that sort of sensationalist nonsense is why you get pulled up in the first place.
The rest of it opinion based and guesswork regarding his supposed improved attitude so I'll leave the discussion there apart from to add, Andy Cook takes our penalties so if that's all you're basing it on then no, he wouldn't improve us. -

Typo it should say "proved himself good" at L2 level. I've altered it.
Explain why a manager as savvy as Simpson, would start Gibson for every League 1 game this season? Clearly he's improved and yes a good manager could have been a factor, but he admitted a while ago that his decision to go to Ireland was a big factor......
“It was like taking a step back to go forward, in a sense, and trying to get myself out there again and to enjoy my football. I definitely matured as a player" he said when we played them back in 2021
i.e. it's down to the player to realise that they have to make adjustments for themselves and it's not always the managers fault.
Incidentally he scored 15 in 51 appearances that season (21/22) for Carlisle. And made 54 appearances last year - a less productive one and some as a sub.
But he's clearly improved from what we saw and it's churlish not to admit that or a change in his approach wasn't a major factor. -

To me he's our Ben Stokes . Treated like a precious commodity.
I'm always fascinated by the mental approach to things, probably because I've been a manager for years and you have to work out what makes people tick.
I do think Hughes is 30% to blame for Young as he also never got as much as he should have done out of Smallwood. When there's two vastly different players in terms of attitude, age etc and they both fall victim to a manager - obviously we have to look at the manager.
