Joe Riley signs for Carlisle. No doubt go and be immense there and end up leaving for good money right?

Another one of the 'what might have beens'. Came with high expectations but dreadful in his first few games with us then didn't get a look in for the rest of the season. Looked a different player in pre season last year but then he got that awful injury. Good luck to him.

Yeah good luck to the lad. Will be watching how he gets on this coming season. As stated, came with a big rep (wanted to stay at Utd to fight for a first team place no less!), but didn't have the rub of the green when with us.

Just the life of Riley, can Carlilse depend on him for a full season after his injury, they will soon find out.
Meanwhile, City have some space in the wage cap, he wasn't on peanuts so use it now.

Thought he looked decent last pre season and fully expected him to secure one of the full back slots. It's one of those strange coincidences that the one season we have no right back for competition is the season we've let him go.

As I've said in the past now the PL reserve setup is now an u23 setup it quickly becomes a point where it stops being fit for purpose. They learn all the technical aspects and then need to learn the physical side which you can't really do playing against other young players who don't know how to use their physicality either. They are allowed to play some over age players but if its not fit for purpose for young players it certainly isn't for getting players returning from injury or just those who need some minutes ready which just hinders the young players further.

And that's what you saw from Riley, a player who has the talent but wasn't ready physically especially for the lower leagues. He needed stuck with to help him adapt but he wasn't, some of it being due to the manager changes. And then after the lost first season when he potentially was about to get the chances he needed he got injured.

Given time he is more than good enough for this level, if not at higher levels, maybe even mid to low PL level

No I said he is more than good enough for League 2 level and could be capable of lower to mid PL level. I have seen him play significantly more games than you have and technically he has the attributes to push that level. I would also point out the player he was generally keeping out of the u23 has just helped FC Copenhagen get into the Ebola League quarters most likely to face Man Utd

I'd just point out he's signed for Carlisle United after showing nothing of note with us until his injury. Hey, he might be a success but he's gonna have to show one hell of an improvement to do it. I wish him well.

Again I haven’t said he is ready right this second. As I said in my first reply he needs to work on the physical side of his game and side the mental aspects that go with that but he has the talent to play higher.

We'll see. I've heard it all before and seen it all before yet the players we've had at Bradford who straight away stood out have gone on to better things. Josh Cullen, Reece Burke, Lee Evans, Lewis O'Brien off the top of my head, all loan players way younger than Joe Riley. I watched all the minutes that Riley played for Bradford, i couldn't tell you his best position but with the others i mentioned you could. Riley neither looked a right sided midfielder or a right back, possibly a wing back type but i would say he didn't look as good as our ex resident nonce Tyrell Robinson who looked a far better prospect. Even then i would have said Robinsons limit was league 1, never higher than that.

Recall him looking pretty poor in the limited time he played for us. Didn't get subbed at half time several times (not down to injuries)?
