    Rangers want to hang on to him as a player, with poss future coaching role. Sunderland are interested in signing him with similar. There is no way we could afford the money to take him on. Also it takes us back to that old conundrum - does a great player become a great coach? And PARTICULARLY in Lgs 1 and 2. Defoe has never played at this level. How would he instantly understand it, the different quality of the players? Not for me.

    I'd only consider him as a player coach with Lionel Messi as player manager - he's out of contract so there's no reason for Rupp not to sign him up.

    They did, but I think that if anyone is going to be a player manager they need to be a defender or defensive midfield player, not convinced it works with a striker. Though Frank Stapleton did do too badly
