I don't know who they should sign in January but I do know they somehow have to pull something decent out the bag as I don't think any pre season hype next season will wash with a lot of current ST holders and numbers will be significantly down unfortunately.

The reality is not who we want to sign, but who is prepared to come to us.

lf we remain mid table then players will be looking at the possibility of both win and promotion bonuses.

Who is going to want to sign for a club which has a 1:3 win rate and is currently on target to get 64/65 points, about 10/11th in the table and little prospect of even making the Play Off’s.

We have nine league fixtures between now and the next transfer window. Given current form, l would anticipate about 12 points.

That would put us on 33 points after 24 games. So on target for 64/65 points.

To attract better players we need to be on around 38-40 points. Struggle to see it happening, but as they say, you never know. Heart says, yes we can do it, but many seasons experience say, it is highly unlikely.

I'd take 35 points from 23 games if we can kick on from there

That would be 70 over the season. Lincoln got into the play offs on 66 points fifteen seasons ago, but didn’t get promoted. Stevenage and City both got into the Play Offs and promoted on 69. However most seasons you need well into the 70’s to stand a reasonable chance of getting into the knockout. In 2016, Accrington Stanley accumulated 85 points, were still in the Playoffs yet failed to get promoted.

I'm talking about 35 from 23 and an improved second half of the season, something like two points a game. That would get us up to 80 and automatic promotion.
