January - date of our first signing?

That’s funny because if you say “couldn’t hit a barn door with a barn door sized banjo” in Swahili it rhymes with Guthrie.

After turning down several bids

 

Cue another meltdown....sorry lockdown...thank f*** for that.....

 

Logically it makes sense if we make our first signing after the Morecambe game (2/1/2021) but before the Scunthorpe game (9/1/2021).

I'm not sure we'll have a deal so ready to go that they sign on New Year's Day, but maybe City will surprise us.

If we've targeted players that want to come to Bradford City and are available, the sooner the better - though if clubs or players want to test the market, it will naturally come later on in the window.

A lot will depend on how persuasive we are, or if we're signing players that already know the club.

So yeah, I'm going to say we sign our first player around Friday 8th.

 

But won’t all these reports on new signs be ripped up, now we’ve got a new manager coming in? He’ll want to target his own players surely?

 

The January 2021 transfer window opened on 2 January and will close at 23:00 GMT on 1st February2021.
If a player of any club test positive for Covid after this week's mandatory testing bearing in mind it's the 5th and assuming a 10 day isolation period kicks in from today's testing at our club anyway that would mean sometime after the 15th January they would be Covid free and able to be brought into the club.

 

Sometime after late January I think................about August maybe September.

 

Problem with the Jan window is that it’s a case of brinkmanship. A selling club who know it’s their last chance to cash in if the player is out of contract in June is unlikely to accept first offer in early Jan. Once it gets to late Jan most deals will then be done as one of the clubs will blink first. It’s a bit like changing your car, you rarely do the deal in first 15 minutes. It’s frustrating for fans but I expect most of our business to be in the last week of Jan.

 

Surely that's got to be a shoe in to be a tie breaker question on a pub sports quiz?
