Agree, Tony. But it does put us in a much better bargaining position for negotiating a fee.

That's all about man management, not sure Hughes is the type to put an arm around a young player and try to sort the problem out with a quiet word.
We saw with Mark Marshall after his first season under Phil Parkinson there was something quite not right, Stuart McCall pull him on one side and has a quiet word, he was a different player during his second season under Stuart McCall.

Can't disagree with anything you've said. But don't for one minute think this won't leave a mark on Hughes time at Bradford if Young does go on to better things as his job is to get the best out of talent available to him.

If Young carries on his form of late and we do end up with a fee for him it will be to the detriment of Hughes, not to his credit. Players like him were brought on long term deals to be hopefully trained on for our benefit, not to see some other team get the benefit. That said it's all about him keeping that form up which I'm not sure he will

Totally agree, not sure he needs to keep his present scoring ratio up, if he gets into the low teens come Christmas and God forbid were off the pack then it will be a massive test of our manager, and as you point out his and his backroom staffs ability do do as you say improve the kid over the length of his contract to the benefit of Bradford City.

Is it a case of Karma?

You would think Hughes would know a thing or two about strikers yet here we are in a deep ditch currently,
Cook is Plan A and rightly so but our other options leave alot to be desired-
    Oliver out injured at the end of last season and still missing this season, doesn't work well with Cook and his goalscoring record at City speaks for itself;
Tyler Smith runs around but we need to see goals from him every now and then(and i dont mean a pen), City give Swindon a goalscorer and we get back an ex Swindon forward who doesn't score much- typical.
Derbyshire can give you a small cameo but you have to wonder if he wants more game time at another level at his age, should have paid up his contract and moved onto another forward that can last more than 20 mins

At times this club lacks that little bit of luck, City could have had a front two of Harratt and Young but alas one turned into a dipstick and the other demanded to play to his strengths.
Both would have needed the kind of service that the Cookie Monster struggles to get

Tulloch it is then to take his chance

I don't think Smith is doing much wrong. He is making the runs and getting into positions, but we then just don't play the ball. He could have had 2 against Crewe, one a tap in, if Pattison had made the pass. This has been the case for years at City when we have brought in strikers from higher leagues. Even if they haven't been first team players they have been trained to make the right runs, but get to City and we are incapable of picking the pass.

I like the look of Smith and I can see a good partnership with Cook when they are back fit. His strengths are running the channel and in behind the defence which he can't do with Cook injured as he's got to be the target. Against Colchester our opening goal came from his run off a Cook flick on and Oduor following in his shot. One area we really lacked last season was runs in behind onto balls over the top and that's what he does.

How dare you question our manager, after listening to Mark Hughes latest pre match press conference Cook does not require surgery thank goodness but it will be longer than 2 weeks, his last game was at home to Crewe on Saturday 26th August where it was plain to see Cook had been struggling for at least the last 15/20 minutes but completed the full 90 minutes, by the time he's fully fit I bet its nearer 8 weeks he's out.
Sometimes desperate situations require desperate measures with regards young Pointon, I remember a young Graeme Tomlinson getting thrown into the mix way back, during his short spell of 17 games he scored 7 goals catching the eye of a Manchester United scout who I believe at the time came to watch another City first teamer maybe Dean Richards but not sure ?.

If indeed Young did call Hughes “f-Ing clueless” then that’s bang out of order. You don’t disrespect your managers, especially one with the career Hughes has had.

Id recall him asap just to f***k Swindon up. Hughes won’t play him and so cant see a recall happening until Jan, when we should cash in.

hopefully though hughes is sacked before then and he returns and is happy to give it one more go.
