Lionel Messi sparked Argentinian fan Ivo's love for Bantams



THE flight from Manchester to Copenhagen today contained one reluctant passenger.

Ivo Soboleosky did not want to leave after an “unbelievable” fortnight finally seeing his football team in the flesh.

The 19-year-old from Argentina, AKA Bradford City Latam on Twitter, is well known in social media circles by Bantams fans.

He’s the one who uploads goal videos from iFollow within moments of them being scored at Valley Parade - a useful source for fellow fans and journos alike.

And now he has fulfilled an eight-year dream after attending the Leyton Orient and Carlisle games. Pre and post-match drinks at the Latvian Club ensured he got the full experience.

“It was brilliant,” he said. “You meet up with lots of people and then afterwards you go back and talk about the game.

“It’s very different to what I used to do in Argentina when I just go to watch my team with my family.

“The atmosphere was great. I had a drink with the guys from the City Vent and people were very nice, very friendly.”

Ivo, who celebrated his birthday last week with a party in Nab Wood, is currently spending a gap year in Denmark after finishing high school. He is in the Danish capital until October.

“I just work, I play football and I watch Bradford City. The time difference is better watching in Copenhagen than in Argentina.

“The idea of coming to England was in my head for a long time.

“I planned to come against Leyton Orient after we won at Northampton. We were very close to the auto places, so I thought, ‘maybe we are going for the miracle’.

“It wasn’t enough, but you never know in football.”

City’s top-three hopes were dashed while he was in the air. By the time the flight had touched down in Manchester, news had come through of Crewe’s late win.

“I knew it would be the play-offs then. But I had two games to watch - better than one.

“The atmosphere was great. I was sitting really close to the pitch so you could hear everything, the players, the fans.

“It was an amazing experience for me. It was better than I thought it would be.

“When you watch on iFollow, you can’t see the upper stands so don’t see all the atmosphere. Being there is completely different.

“You can feel everything. We were bouncing when Jamie Walker scored.

“I was very nervous watching it, especially in the second half because we lost control of the game.

“But I feel confident about the next leg. Of course, it’s a different game but we have the advantage and I think the team will make it.”

And if City do make the final?

“Yeah, I’ll have to fly back. I’m not going to miss wembley !”

Ivo comes from Rosario - the same city as Lionel Messi

Ivo’s unexpected love affair with City began because of Lionel Messi, who hails from the same city of Rosario, and an intense dislike of Jose Mourinho.

“It was the Chelsea game in 2015. I’m from the same city as Messi and I loved him - even more at that time as a little kid.

“I hated Mourinho because if you remember he obviously came from Real Madrid and he was always a big character in those days.

“After Bradford beat them, I was thinking, ‘okay, I like this Third Division team’. Chelsea were top of the league at the time, so it was very special.

“I learned it after that Bradford City don’t always win but that’s what football is about. It’s not always winning.

“When you do it feels way better than winning every weekend.”

City ensured there was an extra treat for his trip with the chance to meet Mark Hughes and watch the players train.

“I had a little chat with Ryan Sparks before coming. We met at Valley Parade the second day I was here and he told me that I could come to training to see the staff and the players.

“Of course, I wanted to do that and the next day I went to the training ground. I had a chat with Mark Hughes and it was very special.

“We had a picture taken and it looks like I am part of the staff.

“It’s like Mark is listening to how I would set up the team. But it worked against Leyton Orient and Carlisle!

“Leyton Orient was a draw but felt like a win, so I think it was two out of two for me. You’ll have to bring me more often!

“When I think back to watching that game against Chelsea to now, it’s unbelievable.

“If you told me a week before coming that I’d do all this, then I wouldn’t believe you. Having my birthday in Bradford, seeing the two games and meeting the staff and the manager has just been great.

“I want to stay, especially for the second leg and Wembley.”

Sounds like hes going back home, yes he's the guy Latam on Twitter who posts goals before we've scored them.

 

Dmitry posted the whole game and break down stats of players and the game, no one should get abuse for having an opinion although at the time I disagreed with his, and unfortunatly yours with regards the Ukrainian conflict, let's hope the African delegation can get something sorted out, not sure what happens if they do as the Russian leader is accused of war crimes.

 

@Storck is the guy on the left the guy who sits with you in the stand, I believe you said he'd done a bit of co-comentating on Radio Leeds when they have covered our games in the past.
