It came to me in an unusual flash of memory on Tuesday night that Reece is an absolute copy of Bowser
    in everything he does.
Obviously his left sidedness is a component but running style. positioning ,passing and heading all have elements
    of Mark Bower.
He may be further ahead, in field craft, than Bower, who was always diving in on the halfway line and leaving us exposed when he was new to the team. Bowser improved dramatically with age and experience over his impetuosity
and became a high class operator from his mid twenties onwards and made a good career for himself.
I think Reece has a good chance to emulate his predecessor.

definitely looks like hes got a lot of potential and is doing okay for his first full season. most of his mistakes seem to come from his lack of experience which I hope is something he will improve on over time

coupled with the fact that he doesn't really have an experienced co defender offering him postional advice. I think he'd come on leaps and bounds if he did. Same way Samuels would, if Clayton wasn't such a bad example!

True he has but he is finished now. We need him to be a coach and replace him in the team.

Needs to improve his passing if he can, it has been shocking at times. Solid enough defender though, which is impressive for his age.

Absolutely agree on that. If he had someone like Kilgallon next to him I think he'd absolutely thrive, but as it stands we don;t have a stand out leader at centre half at all.

Anyone remember the last time a good, young player developed at City, by City and broke into the first team and played week in, week out that WASN'T a defender?

Are we literally talking Des Hamilton?

I must be missing a few really obvious ones.

Well I guess Joe Colbeck fits the criteria. It depends what you mean by ‘good’. Ask any Newcastle supporter what they thought about Des Hamilton! Colbeck played more first teams games for City than Hamilton!

Maybe because James came from Guiseley he cant be classed as one of the kids the club developed ?.

Really excited about Staunton. Still only 18 years old, I think if managed right, he is going to be a real asset for us. Hopefully, he is with us for many years to.come.

I know not the strongest of teams he faced yesterday, but he looked quite classy at times. A lot of improvement distribution wise to come I am sure. But yes, like the look of him a lot

Colbeck counts for sure. But why is h why is this club only producing the odd random defender every couple of years?

No forwards, wingers, or attacking midfielders in years?

We don't even have a young attacking home grown player in our current squad.

    What's going on?

The last one I remember is Tomlinson, same era as Hamilton, in terms of strikers. Can't think of another decent one.

Tom Cleverley sadly never got the chance to get into the first team, before being poached.
Graeme Tomlinson also went to Man Utd I think, but ironically (seeing as its where Cleverley plays now) was born in Watford, so I'm not sure if he went through our full youth set up?

Tom was invited to join Man Utd
when he was about 8 years old, so you are correct, never near our first team!
