I can't remember a car park at Valley Parade, where the frontage of the Sunwin Stand is now used to be a row of terrace houses.

They were knocked down long before the fire and a car park created which was also used for training. In terms of the defeat it was said that a few City players had celebrated Christmas a bit too much

Yes played on it as a fourteen year old when invited to go down there on Thursday evenings 68/69. The back wall had squares painted on it which were numbered, Jimmy Wheeler was manager and after each session he used to give us our bus fare back. Happy days.

That building above the car park was something to do with the GPO the row of terrace houses were where that car park is they were demolished and I believe the club used that area for training and also a car park.
I'll see if I can get a picture before the terraced houses were demolished.

No I didn't mean the houses were demolished to make way for the Sunwin, there was a cushion hut directly behind the old stand, then a road and the terrace houses on the other side just like the three that are where the shop is now.

They did indeed Park. The King George V Playing Fields immediately across Canal Road from what is now ACW Garden Centre. During summer holidays around the early 60's I used to cycle down there and watch pre season training over the wall. They also trained at Northcliffe Playing Fields at the Branch, Shipley.
I have a copy of the picture where there looks to be a reserve game going on and yes they did train on the carpark which was composed of shale surface and did have squares with numbers painted on the wall of the adjoining building which I remember as being connected with Belle Vue Barracks and used to store non military equipment after which it may have been used by the Royal Mail.
The picture is early part of the 60's as the current dressing rooms are there and were built 1959/60 ish but the old Club offices at the bottom of Burlington Street are still there as is the old players tunnel under the Kop with pitch entry in the corner of the Kop and main stand.
Finally Keefly's 'tail' quote of "Couldn't score in a brothel" is very apt. The first or second house up Burlington from the Club offices was such a place of ill repute. No I don't know!!, I was around 10/11 at that time and my old man clearly realised and to avoid questions such as "Why those ladies leaning out the windows when it's so cold?" he took me down Back Burlington, through the turnstiles at the top of the Kop then down to our place at halfway on Midland Road which is demolished on the photo.
Final point on the Colchester result. Was that game not the week before we played a big cup game?, Arsenal away?, might be a memory problem.

Yes it was the week before we boarded the Telegraph and Argus 7 O'clock special train to London for the Arsenal match.
As we pulled into King's Cross I remember railway workers waving all their digits to forecast a 10 goal defeat.
The team put in a decent performance, losing 3-0 and went on to win 15 of their last 18 league matches.

    Nice post @Park bantam@Park bantam

I've a bunch of City fan mates, around my age (60 in May) who laugh at the enthusiastic but patient younger fans. (mainly, not all) who seem to think that we're a big club and so should be doing a lot better.

We agreed, that in all our time in Division 4, after all that's what it is, 90% of the matches have been shite - and we've all been visiting since the late 70's.

So, not forgetting that yes this season hasn't been satisfactory so far, it's laughable at what standards some think we should be seeing from L2.

Let's remember that we are third in the shots on goal stats (see below) and also try and realise that apart from around a dozen seasons we haven't ever been that special.

I too was invited by the club as a 12 year old under the said Jimmy Wheeler to train in the car park on a Thursday, and kept the attached picture from the T&A as I am on it.

I also remember later a few years on, some of the older lads who had cars, were sometimes asked to put their car headlights on to illuminate the area as I don’t think there was any/very little light in the car park.
