    Another fun thread ahahaha.

Just to get peoples opinion of what they would do if they were the next manager of Bradford City.

In this scenario, you have control over the transfers, but try to imagine a realistic skimpy budget that we are likely to have after we have to pay Adams off out of his contract. :p

I would sign a decent striker from the National League that is a proven goalscorer, I'd also be looking at a couple of players to really help us left and right in midfield, especially with my tactical solution below.

I would go for a 3-5-2 Attacking formation, with full on long balls (hoof balls) and hope for the best. :no_mouth:

I'd also give the best damn pre game pep talk these players have ever had. Trust me, they'd be going out there raring to go.

If we were losing at half time, my half time pep talk would be a world cup winning pep talk, we'd be getting back out in the 2nd half and producing solid results. I also wouldn't be afraid to make changes I felt necessary before the clock hits 60 minutes of play. Go big or go home!

So, you can probably tell I'm a little optimistic again, but to be fair, I usually am between managerial appointments.

So...what would you do as Bradford City manager?

If I were City manager I'd resign well before the boo boys got at me after the first defeat of the season.

A pre-match pep talk is important but my first one as manager wouldn't be with the players. It would be with the CEO. It goes something like this ...

Cut out the bull sh!t; stop raising expectations amongst the fans by promising promotion; be open with fans about whether our playing budget is in alignment with our plans for the season and above all, understand that overnight success rarely happens. If you do otherwise, you create problems for me, the manager and the players.

It doesn't have to be done via a megaphone; it doesn't have to be akin to Ferguson's hair dryer treatment. It just needs to be realistic and honest.

4-4-2, I've been going since the mid 90s and I have never seen a successful City team that doesn't play this way. I reckon it's got something to do with the fact that the VP pitch is narrow but long.

You need a big man / little man combo up top. You tell the little man "when the ball goes long to the big man's head, just get within 10 yards of him" - Think Mills/Blake or Hanson/Wells

Two wingers. One to give the option for the out ball playing on the left, he can be real lazy and not track back for me but he must be the entertainer of the team. The other needs to be a real ground coverer and perhaps not as adventurous who steps in to make it a three man central midfield when out of possession. - Think Beagrie/Lawrence or Reid/Atkinson(to some extent)

One centre mid sits deep and protects while also being a useful long passer. The other centre mid is the box to box type and captain. - Think Whaley/McCall or Doyle/Jones

Full backs whose first duty is to defend but are encouraged to push up when we are in possession. - Think Wright/Jacobs or Darby/Meredith

One nutcase centre half who will head anything or anyone the other a little more tactful. - Think Moore/O'Brien or McArdle/Davies

GK to command his area and come for crosses, not just dally around on his line. - Think Walsh/McLaughlin

We play direct, we get the ball forward quickly.

When out of possession, the front two and LW press in the opposition half to win the ball back quickly. In our own half, we keep our shape but still apply pressure on the ball to force opposition errors.

If I found myself as City manager, I'd probably offer up a series of inflammatory press interviews, blame the fans, make my position untenable, take the compo, and go manage a club that's set up to succeed.

I would probably do a similar thing faithful.
Recognise that I had been sold a dud. Realise that if I resigned on principal I would walk away with nothing, so somehow engineer a way to have my services dispensed with and walk away with a pay out.

4-2-3-1 works when used correctly. I wouldn't change the formation as the current players are used to it but I would ensure the midfielders push up when we have possession of the ball and the wingers stay wide with overlapping full-backs.

Exactly. West Ham seem to make it work pretty well. But they have two overlapping full backs who can cross really well and have three attacking midfielders who can all score goals.

When Adams got Morecombe promoted he had several players scoring goals as well as the lone striker. But it's never going to work if you have fullbacks like Threlkeld, who can't cross the road, plus a gang of non-scoring attacking midfielders. You end up relying on a solitary striker to score all your goals, and when that striker is as unfit and injury-prone as Cook that's never going to end well.
