    If the vpn points at the UK it will not allow you to buy it as it will think you are in the UK. You need to see which country the VPN is pointing at.

    secondly if it is a free VPN it could be that the system can tell by the IP number it generates for you

    just log into your vpn and it should let you choose a country , or there will be a flag etc

    just choose any country other than UK and select

    But to be honest most free vpn's are shit and dont work

    How much would I be expected to pay for a decent vpn that would allow me access to ifollow and what would this vpn be called....hypothetically speaking of course....;)

    I use Nord VPN, I think I pay about $2 a month. Works with sky, not sure about bbc.

    Doesn't work with BBC , if you use it to access BBC you just get 404 error. Good job the old bongo sites aren't so discerning.

    You'll be able to watch league games played, typically, on a Tuesday for both home and away.
    The ban on broadcasting games 'live' between 2pm and 5pm on a Saturday is either a UEFA or FIFA rule. It was relaxed due to COVID. Although there was a loop hole when it was international weekends. But that got shut down a couple of years back. It looks like the domestic subscription will revert to the pre-COVID days.

    Two year Nord vpn, after cashback about 20 notes. Have it, extremely reliable and cashback paid after a couple of months. Works out about 50p a month.

    I would stay away from Free VPN's. Running a VPN costs money, roughly 15p per GB of bandwidth so for a football match you are looking at them having to pay 90p for them to let you watch it. Do you think they are just paying that money out of the goodness of their heart, especially offering the service 24/7 to potentially thousands if not tens or hundreds of thousands of people? Hell no

    If they are giving it to you for free then you are the Product. They are collecting data, perhaps maliciously on you which they are using to generate an income. Certainly, the chances of it actually being a VPN and not just a proxy is actually very slim because an actual VPN would limit some of the data they could collect. And some of these plugins collect data even when they are active

    Something to be aware when using the likes of NordVPN is streaming companies know their IP ranges and will often actively block them, some even in sneaky enough ways where they let you purchase or take out a sub using it but when you try and play the video it will trigger the check and block it.

    For example using NordVPN, i can signup and pay for HBOMax but if I try and use the service with it I get a VPN warning. They do have plenty of options of servers and if you go through them all you might find one that's not yet blocked but the further the server is from the UK the worse video performance you will.

    So you might pay for 2 years of NordVPN and pay for a season pass on iFollow and find it then doesn't work or stops working part way through the season

    It's why I run my own VPN service for geo-locked content. I just spin up a new droplet on the hosting provider I use for this site and others in the country of my choice from a preconfigured image which gets me a new source IP every time and I can use any service I want in that country. Even if it gets blocked it doesn't matter as next time it will be a new droplet with a new ip


    Oh and you also need wipe all your ifollow/city site cookies and create a new account as they mark the region you are in when you signup

    I use ProtonVPN a free VPN based in Switzerland and because outside the EU has a strict no logging or records policy

    ProtonVPN isn't as bad as most free ones because at least there is a clear way they make money, that's basically by annoying you with the lowish speeds and lack of features to get you to pay up. And then they basically charge more than most others to pay for the free users

    Gotta say I've had nord for a couple of years and using its GB based servers, never (yet) had issues coupled with Virgin Media.

    Good write up mind. Some considerations to take on board.

    It is a UEFA enforced rule but on request of the home nations. So if the home nations decided they wanted to scrap it UEFA would do just like they did during COVID

    yep. The EFL request the block to the FA who then request to UEFA, they have to follow the chain.
