Agreed, we go into the next game on the back of a win, rather than a soul destroying 96th min defeat.

I think the ref was Seb Stockbridge. My abiding memory of him is when we played Port Vale a few years ago, someone had a shot and it hit McArdle on the back, and he gave a penalty for it. Awful decision! (Never forgiven him!!)

I think that's fair summary but I come back to my original point. In a lacklustre performance, a defence sitting in, is Angol the answer? Has the key to unlock defences and knit it together up top? I'm not so sure

I know it's an old anecdote of mine but I compare Lee Angol (4 goals, 2 assists, 26 app) at Leyton Orient vs Josh Wright (8 goals, 4 assist, 34 apps) . Only 3 seasons ago, with little knowledge of the dynamics at Orient but the latter got double the amount of assists and goals than the former. The numbers throughout his career just don't stack up.

Angol has struggled with injuries throughout. Part of the aim this season will be to get 30-35 games out of him.

I dunno about that presentation. A bit cringeworthy for a first round win. Did they get an open top bus taking them home? However, it’s a good win and some much needed morale. As always with a cup game victory, it’s carrying that form into the next league match which is important.

Was that after Cook thought he was prime Messi trying to take everyone on and lost the ball?

Pretty much so. An oft used phrase but quite apt “ a coming together “ is the best description Jon.

Was it right at the beginning of the second half?

Because I'm not sure where the referee was actually positioned.

Interesting that the consensus isn't the stone wall 'fair challenge' after all...

Its going to be a challenge for some to even get on the bench even though Walker is medium term, Eisa and Osadebe are long term injuries. Pretty difficult? Who would be in front of him in the pecking order.

    In no specific order

    Smallwood
    East
    Songo
    Sutton
    Gilly

    Anyone else?

Whats happened to Kian Scales? Looked fairly decent in pre season. With injury to Walker I thought Hughes may have had him on bench at least.
A fair point but incorrect on Eisa. He is back in light training.

I know, but not training in the sense we normally mean according to MH . Still a long way off, he met the group of senior players yesterday and promptly left them

A number of weeks isn't 'long term' though, is it? Long term is months, or season long injured.

I'm not sure if I've ever known a player make so few appearances over this length of time. I think Ramsden, Reeves and possibly Riley played more minutes than the unfortunate Eisa and they seemed to be out for ages. Whatever the injury is, I doubt (but hope not) he'll return anywhere near the player he was. In fact, what is the player he was? I can't remember anything about his performances for Scunthorpe so couldn't tell you where his best position is or what his attributes are.
