There probably are but how big a recruitment/scouting network do you expect a league one side to have? We operate through germany using contacts of edin and the usual sytem and recommendations in the uk. You cant set up bases in every country hoping to find a gem, if someone is seen elsewhere by a club then other clubs will usually get wind of that too and go from there.

 

My sentiments too, id rather see how good he was first, in friendlies and check a trade games before loaning him out just get a loanee of the similar age in. He is held in high regard and im sure has been away on some england training camps

I can see the arguments for O'Donnell and Akpan, sure, though it's a bit harsh considering Doyle's record. Wright and Law, no idea, and Seedorf and Riley are totally unknown.

It's a big, big, big decision to replace a massive character like McMahon with a kid, but there you go. Seedorf doesn't have to be better than Gilliead to make a bigger impression, either, since Gilliead was talented but lacked in the final third.

In truth, all those signings could be better; in reality, two or three improvements is more likely.

Abbott identified a striker playing in the Dutch league - name escapee me - Rahic rejected him and he went on to a very successful campaign and has been transferred for a fee to a club in the top Dutch division. So this shows we do identify players in other leagues. We have yet to see a player we can afford - who strengthens the first team squad that has come from the German contacts - i would suggest this needs to be reviewed -and we spend the budget elsewhere if this window shows no sign of improvement.

Dont forget NKP, Vincelot, and Chicksen and all of a sudden thats not bad. Doesnt scream title winners but ill bet any of the nay sayers we wont be anywhere near relegation

 

Akpan was a 83rd minute substitute for Reading in our goalless draw in the FA Cup quarter final in 2015

Also played for Crawley in the Brawley game in 2012. Was subbed before the final whistle so not sure if he was involved too much.

 

For sure, Aaron. I have more faith in these 'hungry new young' signings that I dared feel, last season, as back up.
Give us a solid starting eleven (two perhaps three more good 'uns), and I'm sure we'll all be happy come the big KO, knowing we have those good young lads ready to step in and carry any baton for a game or two

 

And don't forget Collins and Drury in that recruitment team as well *ahem*.
