Get some pace on. Exploit the space when they try and attack. We need to be able to get the ball up the pitch much quicker.

To a point. But can Grimsby, bottom of the league and with 10 men really pass it better? We haven't had a sustained spell of control or pressure at all in this game. Its been awful. And its the sort of performance that makes me doubt whether T&S are right. Weve had too many of these completely disjointed performances, masked by getting points.

 

Well a win's a win but that was pretty dire.

 

Can't think of a time when I've enjoyed watching us win less. That was awful, start to finish. The players looked poor, the coaching looked poor, the system didn't look right. In the context of what we need to be planning for next season, I'm starting to worry. And increasingly, I'm questioning whether T&S are the right choice.

 

As well as Donaldson has done and the job Aoc does we need Sutton and Cooke back soon especially Sutton those two are crucial to our pressing game

 

That wasn't a good watch today totally devoid of any attacking intent and with them down to ten men for a full 45 we failed to control the match at all. We look scared to have a go at teams at the minute even with acres of space to move into we are constantly going backwards and slowing the play allowing teams to get into a good defensive shape.

Still a wins a win and it keeps us moving on although even if we make the play offs I can't see us going up.

 

I actually thought Grimsby did tbh. They looked very limited, at no point did they look like they had a man less.

Basically, they were shite, but so were we.

 

How many times has that comment been made in the past with regards the play off's, 11 against 11 on the day and who can take the pressure of the play off's, we haven't made the play off's yet we might no be good enough when push comes to shove but credit where its due, 25 games ago we looked dead and buried under Stuart.

 

Awful performance today which only convinced me that we've got a very average side for this league. But we won and that's all that really matters. We might yet sneak into the playoffs and, as I've said many times, results and form go haywire at this time of the season. Anything might happen and we can only hope we keep winning. Results now are all that matter. Having said that I thought Watt was dreadful, Donaldson showd more control and awareness than most and the changes in formation just added to a forgettable game. No idea what our best side is, but our inability to create chances whoever is on the pitch is pretty obvious. Never mind, we won and despite everything we still have a chance of going up. So, on to Tuesday.

 

Why, oh why, when we had an extra man, and conceded a free kick just outside the penalty area, did we pull all eleven players back to defend? Surely just by leaving one man upfield you ensure the numerical defensive advantage is even larger?

 

Agree. I think we go into the games not to lose instead of to put a game out of sight.

 

AOC just spoke very well, what are people’s thoughts on him signing a new deal ?

 

Thought Paudie did well against Big Jim - he'll have learnt a lot from that sharp elbowed battle. Totally agree about Clayts - best player on the pitch. ROD once again spends bloody ages deciding what to do with the ball. So many occasions this afternoon when he could have been decisive and quicker of thought, set up forward movement much faster. Amazed we didn't make immediate changes at half time after Payne's extraordinary ill-discipline and the red card. God I'd be pissed off with him tonight if I was a Mariners fan.

M'lud, I would like to take the prosecution back to December. Hovering around the relegation places, six losses on the bounce. We were truly going down the pan with erroneous old ideas and old beliefs about how wonderful former players obviously, automatically make great managers. My defendants have taken us to within three points of the play offs. They play fairly conservatively, but are still learning their way in this league. The measure of them will be how they set us up in the last games.
