Head of recruitment/Director of football

It can be the same but it depends what roles the DOF and Manager want to share between. Most DOFs dont work with a manager, they work with a head coach to easily split the two sides of the role. But there isn't really a set role for any DOF, it's different at every club but mainly it hey are seen as the bridge between Board related stuff and pitch related stuff.

Most act as an advisor to the manager/management team where as a head of recruitment, just deals with recruitment and isn't really part of the running of the team, where as a DOF can have hands on everything if that's the agreement. It's supposed to be more of a partnership that deals with off the field stuff, also they 'should' shape up the direction of club from a footballing side of things. I imagine if we bring one in, he'd likely be that kind of role and leave Sparks to deal with commercial type of stuff.

 

It will be a chief scout and someone as ridiculous as that plonk from the worst team in the EFL, Scunthorpe.

Don't hold your breath for an effective appointment.

Couldn’t have anyone threatening Boy Blunder. He’ll feel intimidated if there’s anyone half decent in the setup.

Won’t be what the ‘everything is fine at the club what do you expect Rupp to do he’s backed us’ brigade want to hear, but imagine it’s been done to create the illusion of great change as cheap as possible. Whoever it is will be a glorified head scout, where as a DoF would over see all things football from the academy up including forging links with other clubs and creating and a proper scouting network.

Let’s be honest it’s a different version of Lee Turnbull, mixed in with a bit of Adams’ scouts.

 

No reason to believe otherwise. We saw the impact Turnbull had in that role. It was vital the club didn't stick with that level of nothingness, but here we are.

Surely the important bit is in the job description, is it not?

 

The club needs a vision and a strategy. A DOF will bring that to the table and Paul Jewell is the absolute man for the Job.
Ryan Sparks hasn’t got a clue about running a football Club, and changed his strategy every 6 months as he hasn’t a clue what he is doing. He changes hoping that he will fall lucky with a decent Manager. Herr Ruup will sack him (Hopefully) if he gets this next appointment wrong.

The club is so Micky Mouse and Badly run we are in danger of going out of existence.

sparks needs to get out of the Club as soon as possible - he is so far out of his depth it’s a joke.

We need someone to oversee every footballing decision at the club, not just player recruitment. Has to be a DoF appointment rather than simply a recruitment director.

 

They're saying 'we are replacing Turnbull/the HoR'. I get the feeling the club don't understand what a DoF is or why we need one so critically badly.

Don't expect a rewrite of the role.

You really don't need a DOF with Mark Hughes as manager.

 

Why, will we never replace him?

It's a basic role, someone to look after the clubs future.

Not being funny, but don't we need a DoF MORE than a HoR with such an appointment?

 

One to watch for to be sure, there was a t&a article this morning where it was mentioned one of the three Adams scouts, Roscrow i think was the guy in the frame,

Whoever comes in should be independent of Hughes but someone he’s happy to work with
