Unfortunately the short period of shaking hands and back patting has resulted in 3 crushed metacarpals and a dislocated clavicle and he's out until christmas.

At a Players Sponsors event this week, Gary Bowyer made a point of praising Jake Reeves.

He said he's been through a horrible injury period and now recovery and he wants him back fit next season.

He's sent him out scouting recently and he attended the game at Scunthorpe for the club and came back with an excellent report.

Thats like paying Inspector Morse to run the lost property office and praising him because he got it looking nice and tidy.

What's actually wrong with him now then? A genuine question as I can't even remember what it was he was sidelined with in the first place. think the situation with reeves and some of the other injured players has been a massive source of frustration amongst fans. Whilst sometimes you get unlucky with bad injuries, the communication to us all has been abysmal this season.

A player that's been out for over a year isn't going to be fit in a month.

If it was an injury it would take him at least 2-3 months to get fit.

I am guessing he has had some form of Mental Health illness. I doubt it is the original injury. We are all entitled to confidentiality from our employers, footballers are no different. I think that is the right course of action, getting him to take part in football matters will help build confidence. Let’s all hope for his sake that he recovers in time for the new season,

He had a groin injury which he an operation for, as he has not gone under the knife again (as far as we know) it's fair to speculate the operation was a success but there have been other possibly non physical problems.

Jake had a superb fitness record at Wimbledon playing every minute of every game (including minor cups) one season followed by 46 games in the next. There was nothing to suggest he is a sick note.

As has been said, employees are entitled to confidentiality.

When anyone is off sick for a long period of time at my place they have a phased return to work. Depending on the circumstance, this can go on for a number of months to bring them back into the full time work environment. On occasion this can even be to a job with different roles and responsibilities. It's the sign of a good employer and one that does what it can to bring the employee back in the best interest of both employee and employer.

Quite right too. Just because you pay for a season ticket doesn’t give you the right to demand a statement on any given situation every 5 minutes. I’ve warmed to Bowyer, very much like Parky so I’ll trust his judgement.

Alternatively, it's excellent man management. A player that has been out for as long as Reeves has is likely doubting his self worth, feeling a bit lost, low in confidence and anxious about when/if he will be able to resume his playing career and if a manager that has never seen him play for City, will want to keep him. What Bowyer seems to have done is given Reeves a clear message he is in his plans for next season if he can get himself fit, and by giving him tasks like scouting to do, has given him a bit of purpose which will increase his confidence and make him feel wanted.

If he is over his problems next season he could be a key player in Div 2

Wonder if we're as conscientious to the players we'll be telling this week you're not good enough on your way. I suspect the approach with Reeves is the club being seen to be doing the right thing to avoid litigation to compound the losses already incurred. He's already shown he more than willing to play the system. Before we all get too starry eyed about it, consider his length of service and the amount of time he's been injured/ill and ask yourself what employer in the real world wouldn't have already taken steps to get shot.

As has been debated many times on here before there are significant differences between footballers and real life employees. That makes him fortunate to be still collecting his wage packet imo.

Its not a mental health issue but a physical one. Quite a complicated injury i understand.

So why have the club not to told us what sort of injury he's had, as @Onside@Onside says if it's a mental issue then the player and club have every right to keep it in house, but if it's a football injury whats the reasoning keeping it under wraps.

I know the uncertainty and the length of injury makes fans wonder what’s going on but it’s a short career it can’t be much fun for the player being out for so long
