Cockney Harry Redknapp who lives in Poole?

Why would a man with no connection to the area buy a football club with no tangible assets, a football club whose large crowds are propped up by season tickets the same price as they were a decade ago, a football club that lost £2m or so last season and continues to lose money and has existed in the bottom two divisions for most of the last two decades, a football club who in a few years need to negotiate a new lease on a crumbling stadium or find a new home? Oh and one which the owner wants £6m for and needs another few million chucking in to sign yet another new squad and pay their wages with no ticket sales.

Apart from that, yeah it’s got legs.

No, why would he buy a club with fans who can't even spell his name correctly?

And season tickets look remarkably like brown envelopes that are handed in every game to gain access. Nudge nudge wink wink.

He’s not coming North, no chance. As others have said, Sarfend is the obvious choice. New ground on the way as well I think; not too far for the original East End connection - you know it makes sense Rodney.

    Near Fossetts Farm area?
That’d be handy, sell properties to allow ground development to proceed and use the proceeds to buy the club - good old Harry wheeling and dealing!

Seriously - used to do some work with the Palace Hotel so I had some knowledge of plans / business in and around Southend. If it all comes off, it’ll be a top notch development and worthy of lower end championship.

He's got a couple of residential properties near me, one he used to live in when he managed WHU.
Only about 30-35 minutes from Fossetts Farm

The problem is the new ground has been in the wings for the last 4 years. I think Sainsburys were originally involved but as with the Big Four retailers they stopped their development programme very early on. When we last played in 18/19 season they were very gloomy about the prospects of the new ground although I think another party had got involved. Sainsbury also pulled out of another deal, Bristol Rovers from memory.

Sainsburys did indeed have a prospective deal on the table. For lower league clubs a viable partner in the deal such as a large supermarket chain or a large retailer is arguably the only way a deal would ever get off the ground. The new complex a York an example of this and the new stadium at Luton where i think the funding is dependant on a retail complex getting built first. Similar in rugby league with the prospective deals at Castleford and Wakefield.

You're right but those days are largely gone now as development programmes have tailed off over the last few years. In my career I bought the grounds of Walsall and Falkirk which helped fund new facilities and directly contributed to improvements at Hamilton Accies or others such as Kilmarnock, Peterhead, Hartlepool and Norwich by means of improving access, parking or general improvement works associated with my Company's scheme. Those days are now gone, probably forever for sporting organisations.

No hope for City then? Council are unlikely to do anything major (even less so after whatever shortfalls this year brings). VP it is then, best keep on good terms with GG.
